“Small Town Charm, Big Town Elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

My spouse and I recently stayed at the elegantly appointed Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah, Iowa for an anniversary getaway, and found it friendly, quiet, and big on charm and helpfulness. Recently remodeled and updated for modern needs, this 1905 gem keeps its old-world decor but has thoughtful touches and amenities to please any guest. The concierge was especially helpful; our car had broken down, and between Peggy's helpful advice and complimentary use of the lobby computer and phones, we not only enjoyed a memorable anniversary stay, but were back on the road by the next day. Decorah boasts the Vesterheim Museum, the campus of Luther College, lovely Driftless Zone scenery, significant Victorian architecture (1850s through early 1900s), most within easy walking distance of the hotel. This is a destination stay---no B&B could take better care of you.

Room Tip: Ask for the Westin Noble Suite, if you enjoy music---it is music-themed, with music prints, paintin...

A perfect hotel. An easy walk brings you quickly to every delight in this wonderful town: Luther College, Vesterheim Museum, gift shops, lovely old houses, yummy restaurants! We had a reasonably priced King Suite with lots of room. It was so very comfortable, cheerful and clean. They have very lovingly restored this grand space, and it felt like home; not too fancy, and not at all corporate.

Great old style hotel with lots of wood and very intimate. No fitness or room center but nice bar in lobby also good restaurant downstairs Rooms are all different and very nice and cofortable and large. Have probably stayed there 30 times and it is my favorite hotel within walking distance of other restaurants bars and shops

Room Tip: No bad rooms but the whirlpool rooms are very nice.

Romantic hotel with old world charm. If you can, upgrade to a suite. We did and it was worth the few extra dollars. Our room was beautifully decorated. Entryway/foyer, large king bed, huge sitting area, one and a half baths, fridge. We loved the room so much we didn't want to leave to go out to eat. It's located right downtown and within walking distance to lovely little shops and wonderful dining at the Rubaiyat.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a suite.

Once again we have enjoyed a fabulous weekend at this lovely hotel. I am typing this by the fireplace as I wait for the rest of my party to go into Sunday brunch. This is the one hotel I think of when I plan on a relaxing get away!

This old hotel is beautifully restored and decorated. It's quaint and peaceful with beautiful, comfortable rooms. The staff is excellent and always very friendly. Great breakfast in the morning and restaurant on site with fabulous dinner menu. Located within walking distance to other downtown restaurants and shops.

Stayed here for two nights while visiting Luther College. Outside it was cold, cold, cold. Inside the hotel everything was warm and welcoming from the fire in the lobby to the front desk staff to the wonderful beds. My room was right near the elevator and I never heard a sound from outside my room. I was really surprised. I spent a little of my free time exploring the unique/antique architectural features and decorations like the original cigar shop cupboard. It's just so charming. I didn't eat in the hotel, but enjoyed pizza at Mabe's two doors down and that was great too.
