“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

This hotel was right at the top of some of the best hotels we've ever stayed at. Our room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. I used the soap and shampoos provided, which I usually don't as I bring my own. The lobby was huge with a winding staircase. The hotel has a library which unfortunately I didn't get to use as we were only passing through Iowa on our way home to Ohio. Parking is an extra $8, but the parking garage is next door to the hotel and a very short walk. The hotel clerk charged the fee to our room, and gave us the parking pass. You can come and go as much as you like, you just scan the ticket at the entrance. We didn't eat at the hotel's restaurant, but walked to a nearly place (Vesta) that was very good and reasonably priced.

Full disclosure, we are University of Iowa alums and come every year with our kids for the football opener. Having said that, we have never stayed at this Marriot and had never seen this new development. Wow! Impressive. The hotel is clean. The service was great. The bar was hopping with adult patrons. And the surrounding area of bars and shops is lovely. The nature oasis behind the hotel is really beautiful as well. We stayed with our kids and while the pool was just ok, we will definitely come back.

My stay was fine- the staff was great and the breakfast in the AM in the restraunt was quite good . ( not complimentary but good )

The AC could work better . I like the room cold and it got cool but not cold .

I don't understand why upscale chains like Mariott still have analog TV service .

With the proliferation of HD as a standard in Amercian homes - it's odd to check in to a better hotel and see fuzzy analog TV channels on the Flat screen .

We stayed on a Friday night, to attend a wedding. The hotel is very nice in appearance and the room was clean and attractive. The hotel was quiet, even with a number of younger couples staying on the same floor for the wedding. The bed was very comfortable. Service was good. Highly recommend staying here - very reasonable rates.

I travel to Iowa City regularly for work and tried this hotel for the night. My room was clean, bright and comfortable. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. I love the location of the hotel and I was fortunate enough to have a room that backed to the river. There are some nice walking paths behind the hotel as well. The only "problem" I encountered were the high school girls that were on the same floor that felt that the hallways were perfect for playing music and practicing their routines late at night - the staff of the hotel quickly and professionally handled this, much appreciated.

I will definitely stay here again in the future!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that backs to the river - it's a pretty view.

Thank you for being a guest at our hotel and for the feedback you have provided us. The Riverwalk is a relatively new addition to the area and has been a huge highlight for travelers to our hotel and the area. We are delighted that you enjoyed it . If you have the opportunity to drive across the country again, we hope you will come visit us again.
