Stayed for one night at the Ramada in Clive. Everthing was average and in working order. Rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Hotel looks a little worn and needs some cosmetic repairs. Expectations were met for a motel that is a little over $50 a night in Des Moines.

Overall I think that the property has made some improvments. I have frequented the property and noticed that they have made improvements in their rooms and service. They have nice pillowtop mattresses. They have a full breakfast which can be crowded at times in the morning, but is a wonderful treat. Their staff is couteous. I was surprised after reading the other reviews of this property because it really isn't that bad. There have been some great improvments and I will be staying here again.

“Hotel from Hell”

Ramada Clive/Des Moines West

Sep 2, 2006

This summer my family and I went on a trip to Minnesota to the wilderness. After 7 days in the woods with out the luxuries of home we started back home.

Our stories starts as day is near ending and the nine of us are wanting only a bed and real Bathroom. We have traveled as far as near Des Moines,Iowa. I had called from the cell to get a room for the night at a Ramada Inn in Clive Iowa a town on the outskirts. I had thought a Ramada would be a safe place for my children and grandchildren in a strange town. WRONG.

Up on entering the room we got a call before the bags were dropped asking if the room was ok. Now after a week in the woods anything with running water looked fine. We said ok. Later found the usual motel things we could have complained about. Bathroom door would not shut tight. After a week in a outhouse who cares if the door doesn't shut tight. There was some water damage to both rooms rented but decor was not important only that bed and shower.

We ordered Pizza ate and all were asleep early. Men in one room Adult women in the other.
Now the women were ages 68, 49, 48, and 20. In that room that my Daughter paid for in Cash. This is the important part. She paid for this room and they didn't know where I slept for the night. The room next door was paid for by Mom with her credit card but we let the Guys sleep together with my 37 year old son in charge. He said they were quiet and asleep as all were tired from a busy week and traveling in the car. Oh and a short swim in the pool before the food arrived.

The next morning it was up at 7:00 A.M. for another 14 hrs. to Shreveport. We ate then went back to the rooms and got ready. Son and Oldest Daughter were the last to leave the rooms as she had to pile the towels, clean off counter in bath and make sure the maids have and easy time cleaning up after us. Son is at the door saying hurry up we need to get on the road. Room is left as we found Except for someone's adapter cord they had left we turned in at the desk the night before.

Now for the important part. I turned in the keys we were given. We got on our merry way. At 11:17:51 a.m. some 3 hrs. after we left I get a call on my cell by some man with an accent I can hardly understand telling me there was damage in the room. My daughter paid cash for. I told him only woman stayed in that room and nothing was out of place when we left. Why was he calling me the person who paid for the other room with a credit card?

Thinking that was the end of it and thinking they must have gotten the room numbers mixed up we got home that night at 10:00 p.m. All thinking what a great trip for the Family and memories to last a life time. Later the next week my Daughter gets a letter from the Clive Police Force she has a Police record for destruction of property. You would have to know her to know how funny this is. This is a woman who catches fly's in her house to only let them go outside. Destroy anything in not in her nature. Or any of us let alone steal one of the butt ugly motel drapes they say was missing.

Now the best part. I who did not have my name or credit card number on the room they said was damaged, got my Credit card bill yesterday and found a charge of $350.00 to it from that RAMADA motel in Clive Iowa. Does it sound to you like a Scam and can they charge any room number damage to any credit card they want and claim you did the damage real or not.

THIS IS A WARNING to all who travel and use your credit cards. When leaving a motel maybe we should Demand a room check and sign off before we leave the room so this SCAM will not happen again. Be forwarned there is one Motel that is making money by claiming you are doing damage and making charges to any credit card that they think they can get money from. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth for the whole state of Iowa. Won't go there and give them my money on the next trip north.

“nice hotel gone downhill”

Ramada Clive/Des Moines West

We stayed at this Ramada, formerly a Fairfield Inn, in June 2006. It was always a nice Fairfield Inn, but Ramada (as usual) has let the place run down.

The breakfast bar was substandard compared with Fairfield, the A/C did not work properly, the sheets on the bed were dirty, the furniture was in need of repair, and paint was peeling everywhere.

The hotel also seemed to cater to construction crews working long-term. Nothing wrong with that -I am in construction too- but the hotel seems to have gone to a workers' hostel type of motel.
