“We had a great time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

WOW! What a lobby absolutely beautiful and outdoorsy! We are very much outdoor kind of people. The guest rooms are fairly simple but nice, clean and still have an outdoorsy touch. The breakfast is free and delicious! Parking is free and there is plenty of it. I would definitely stay there again. The location is great and only minutes away from everything.

The hotel is excellent. The rooms are clean. Plasma screen televisions. The northwoods theme is a bit odd in a prairie state, but it actually seemed to add to the charm of the place. Overall, a great motel when visiting the Des Moines area.

A HUGE kudos to the owners of Wildwood Lodge where we stayed this past weekend for the Living History Farms race. We acedentally left our wet and dirty clothes in a trash bag in our room (that was meant to come home with us) and didn't realize we'd left it until we got back to Minneapolis (4 hours away). I called when we got home and was told they would look and I would get a call back on Monday. I pretty much thought "sure, we'll call you Monday...I guess our stuff is gone". Well, this morning (Monday) I got a call back that they had dug through the trash to find the bag and are shipping it to me. Not only were they extra accomdating for the runners of the race (great hot breakfast and warm water hoses to clean off with after the race), they extended that service beyond our stay and went above and beyond. A great place if you are looking for a hotel near Des Moines - I will be back next year and recommend this hotel to everyone. Great for business travelers, families, groups - a hidden gem and a hotel experience I have not had in many years. Thank you Wildwood Lodge!

I have a meeting in Des Moines several times a year and we usually stay at the Wildwood Lodge. Their rates are usually the lowest of acceptable motels, it is quiet even though there usually are a number of people staying there, the breakfasts are wonderful (fruit, juice, breads, waffles, eggs, yogurt, cereal, biscuts and gravy) the room is clean, and the bed is comfortable. There are several restuarants within walking distahce and the motel is in a convenient location for the interstate and getting to other areas in Des Moines. I haven't tried the pool or exercise room. They are 2 bikes that can be borrowed to use on the nearby bike trails.

Room Tip: Select a room away from the elevators. People tend to be somewhat noisy as they are leaving.

Great location with lots of restuarants nearby! Wonderful pool area for kids and adults alike. They served a nice breakfast with a variety of choices. Since we had 4 rooms we appreciated the large lobby for eating breakfast or just gathering. The only thing that could make it better would be to have a small refrigerator in the room.

We took a little vacation to our home town in Iowa. All of the reviews for this lodge were great, and we were not disapponted. The room was awesome..The bed the most comfoortable I have ever slept in including at home. The pillows, superb! The lodge is uniquely decorated, a very nice touch form a regular hotel. Nice homey feel. Everyone was very nice and accomodating..Our children and grandchildren came to visit us at the hotel, they swam in the pool which was a perfect temperature, and had a wonderful time! There were many varieties of food for breakfast, and the wildwood is close to everything! It really is quite a charming lodge, and the price is completely affordable. The center of Des Moines is quite large. I would highly recommed this lodge to anyone coming to Des Moines to visit. Whether it be one day or many. My husband and I will be back most definetly!

The hotel is decorated cute in a lodge theme. The room was clean. My room had a king bed and a desk. The bed was too soft for my taste. The large screen flat panel TV swivled so you can watch it from anywhere in the room. Although it is a HDTV the signal to it was standard definition. The rooms had free wired and wifi Internet access. My room also had a shower, no tub. The water did stay at the temperature you set it at. The hotel had nice free breakfasts and they served appetizers in the evenings. I really liked the fried cheese sticks. There is an indoor pool but I did not use it. The hotel workers were friendly and helped us by suggesting restaurants.
