My wife and I needed a place to stay in Cedar Rapids overnight. We had done some traveling over the summer and I was determined not to go to another cut rate motel, so I searched online and found this place. I wasn't expecting a lot, actually, but boy did I have another thing coming. First of all, the ROOM: we stayed in the Belmont Suite, and that was luxurious, comfortable, homey, without feeling like we were staying in a museum. The master bed was simply the single best bed I have ever slept in. Everything was clean, clean, clean, the wood was polished, the knickknacks were creatively and carefully placed, not appearing at all to be just shoved on a windowsill or spare ledge as I have seen in other places. The complimentary chocolates on the pillows were a very nice touch, as was the terrycloth robe hung in the bathroom. We were there on a rainy November day, so the grounds were wet, but I can just imagine how it would look in the bloom of summer, or the dead of winter, and can't wait to come back in another season just for that. Lots of trees, a very private feeling. The rooms not being in the same building as the owners was something which made me book a room here with not much reservation and I was right, it did feel more private. There are two rooms on the main floor which are smaller than the big suite, but I didn't hear a lot from my neighbors (both were occupied the night we were there). The owners were GREAT, interesting people, and I wish I had been more awake during our breakfast chat to really engage them! The breakfast was the farthest thing from a standard b&b gesture that you can imagine - we started out with a great chopped fresh fruit/yogurt thing, moved on to the main entree which was a ...egg and ham bake thing? (I am sorry I did not know what it was, but rest assured it was more than granola and milk!) and they even had dessert streudals - all homemade. Toast with homemade strawberry jam the likes I have not tasted since my grandmother was alive. Served with fresh coffee and orange juice. I have two suggestions for anyone interested in staying here: first of all, DO IT, it is the best treat you can give yourself away from home, and second of all READ THEIR DIRECTIONS ON THEIR WEB PAGE! Internet maps will lead you astray, and that is why they take the time to let you know. Fantastic trip, and we will definitely be back for longer, with this place not as a stopping place or a crash pad but as a destination!
We saw one of the smaller rooms as we left- they are very cozy and look nice. If you can afford the...
