“Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We were recently here for a family wedding. Wow what a great venue! The food was great and facilities even better. Service was excellent. We had a lovely bedroom at a very reasonable price. Smooth check-in. We spent an enjoyable weekend. My sister-in-law, mother of the bride, said they were a great to work with. I particularly liked the patio/courtyard area were we had cocktails while waiting for the wedding party to finish with pictures. It was a well designed outdoor space.

I was so impressed by the consistently good customer service that the student staff of this hotel provided. Whether it was in the restaurant, the front desk, the housekeeping staff, or the campus security guy who jumped my car, everyone was polite, helpful, and responsive to my needs. Also, the prices are minimal for gourmet foods - no room service surcharge...the only down side is the odor of the equestrian center but that is mitigated by watching the horses frolic. Tit is one of the best hotels I have ever visited.

That's right I found the BEST HOTEL in Cedar Rapids Iowa and yes it ranks right up there with the best hotels I have ever stayed at. There is a reason too...research why the KIRKWOOD is one of the bests!!!! Great service, FANTASTIC contemporary rooms actually contemporary hotels. My one criticism which is small is they need to add to the fitness room even though you have FREE access to a wonderful rec center on campus I don't want to go there in the winter...too many clothes to put on at 6 am. GREAT PLACE FOR A MEETING, TO EAT, ETC...

Our family of four spent a night at the Kirkwood following a Saturday evening football game in Iowa City. Although it was a 15 minute drive up the interstate, by selecting this property, we managed to avoid the higher rates and minimum stay requirements of lesser hotels located closer to the stadium.

The hotel is situated near the main campus of Kirkwood Community College and appears to employ a number of hotel management students. The Eastern Iowa Regional (i.e. Cedar Rapids) Airport is also located nearby. The area is somewhat rural. As a result, absent a 10-minute car ride, restaurant and shopping choices are seemingly limited to what's available in the lobby. We did not dine at any of the restaurants, although the dining rooms and the balance of the lobby appeared inviting.

Our room was modern and featured comfortable beds, a mounted flat-screen TV with an attached media hub and higher-end fixtures. Due to the construction of the building (i.e. a flat concrete facade), this nouveau decor came close to making our room appear too spartan. That said, it didn't cross the line.

It appears the hotel has a small exercise room, but no pool which was a bit of a disappointment to our kids. There was some suggestion that guests could access an exercise facility at the college although I did not investigate this option.

All in all, the Kirkwood offers a good value in a new and modern environment. If you can deal with the location, it's worth a stay.

Located 3miles from the airport on the campus, integrated into the Conference Center. A lot of students work in the hotel as part of their education. Modern, spacious rooms with attention to detail and high quality interior. Excellent service and highly convenient when attending a conference. What I have heard, probably the best hotel in Cedar Rapids, just a bit remote. You would need a rental car anyway to get around. No pool. Fitness Center inhouse very limited, the near-by campus recreation center offers everything.

Visited the hotel for a business trip and was thrilled with the service, appearance, food and location of the hotel. The general manager went out of his way to accomodate our request to see the city by escoring us back and forth to their downtown.

Had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel over the course of the conference and each meal was expertly prepared and presented.

This is a teaching facility but major hotel brands could learn a lot about customer service by sending their professional staff here.

My only regret about this hotel is that I could not stay longer. Arrived at 11:30 pm and called for the car service from the hotel - black town car showed up and sped me the short distance to the hotel where the front desk person had my room key ready. I just loved the room - large and modern, decorated in black, white and red. The bathroom was pretty spectacular - marble and glass shower - with good toiletries. The next morning I ordered room service ($8 for eggs and bacon plus delicious fruit) which arrived 5 minutes early (love that), delivered by two lovely young women.
I was speaking at a conference at the hotel at 8 am so did not eat any of the continental breakfast provided for the meeting - but the muffins looked amazing. And as soon as I finished my presentation it was off to the airport - hence my sadness at not staying longer.
I don't think I will be back in Cedar Rapids any time soon - but I almost wish I would be just to stay here again.
