Bonaparte Iowa sits on the banks of the Des Moines River and the Inn is an ambitiously converted former wool pants factory. The room's are spacious and new with antiques and, to my taste, unfortunate Victorian touches rather than a kind of industrial chic. So much furniture and no place to hang your clothes. Some of the second floor rooms look out over the river; however, our room on the first floor looked out at an old truck and, despite having only two guests, the front desk was unwilling to move us. Breakfast was good but served at 8:30, not when we wanted it. We had to ask them to make more coffee.
There's a great antiques store, art gallery, and restaurant in this hamlet so it's a great place to stay.
Ask for a view of the river and look at the amazing third floor factory space.
