“Pilu @ Freshwater - Pricey but Tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

After recommendation from friends, we went to Pilu for dinner (21st June) and were impressed that the meal almost lived up to the expectations. There is a 3 course option where you select the entrée, main and desert or the 5 / 7 course preset menus. We went with the 3 course off of the main menu along with a nice bottle of Italian wine. After hearing so much about the suckling pig we had to go with this and while slightly dry, it was fairly good. I actually thought the entrees (both pastas) were better and the desert was likewise very good. If we go again, we will likely try the preset 5 or 7 course option so that we can try a greater variety. Overall the dinner was good, the service very good but given the price in the upper tier of the Sydney market, I am not sure that I would vote to go again over other choices (Jonah's also in the Northern Beaches for example).

If you go, I would suggest going when there is light - the restaurant no doubt justifies part of its price on the view which is missed at dinner time in the winter. Also ask for a table near the windows - not as much for the view but to avoid the hustle bustle of wait staff constantly back and forth behind you along with the cold draft from the door every time someone comes or goes.

“Sea view and gastronomic experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

Pilu seems to be a well kept secret in the Northern Beaches.
How fantastic can it be to have world class gastronomic food and still hear the waves...
Sardinian cuisine is distinctive for its use of ingredients and at Pilu one experiences this in every step of the meal.
The place has a Hamptons taste with a beautiful colour palette and interesting paintings.
Food is good at any time but the view during the day makes it even more special.

“Has been better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014 via mobile

We went here expecting the standard we were use to over the last few years and we were disappointed in the slow service for our lunch and lack of attention. This was not our experience in the past so we are not sure what's happened or maybe we struck a bad day. The food was great but not the wow factor we remember from 2008 and later years but hopefully it was just a lack lustre day. We will be back to try again as it has always been great in the past.
