“Very nice and quiet hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

Stayed here one night when driving from VA to WI. Very nice quiet hotel. Easy access off Hwy. 30 in Valpo. Right on the University Campus. Nice rooms, really comfortable beds and bedding. Newer hotel. Staff was outstanding and very helpful.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 2nd floor. Convenient room right next to elevator and at the top of the steps.

Room was very clean, but the stench in the pool area was unbearable. Seems like a quiet place, with a great location, but the pool was cloudy and really smelled like a nursing home. Obviously we skipped.

We stayed here for a quick weekend visit to Valparaiso University.
Pros- The location was nice. It was close to the university and a good number of restaurants. The front desk clerks were very friendly and they had fresh baked cookies every night. A complimentary breakfast was included as well. The rooms were clean and configured nicely, with a large bathroom.

Cons- The pool was average. Not as clean as it could have been. There's not much to do in the hotel. The pull out bed is absolutely unbearable! Don't even bother trying to sleep on it, it's terrible. Our toilet seemed to run all night long and the ice machine outside our room was noisy.
So to say the least, we did not get a good night sleep, but we appreciated the service.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a wedding party with several rooms booked. The facility itself was fine and pretty much what you would expect for this type of hotel. The rooms and grounds were clean, the breakfast was on par and most of the staff was friendly. We encountered a couple of problems, though. We were originally booked for one night under the name of the bride's mother and decided to stay a second night so we presented our credit card for the second night and all charges appeared to be correct. However, when the bill was left at our door the final morning, charges for both nights remained under the original account and it was an ordeal with the front desk to get it corrected; we later discovered there were several charge discrepancies with the wedding party.

The most alarming issue though was the security of our room. We left the room mid-morning, making sure the door was closed and locked, and did not return until around 11pm. Upon return, we discovered our door was propped open by the security bar! The room had been serviced so we had to assume that housekeeping left it unsecured. After checking to make sure our belongings were all there, I went to the front desk and advised the night clerk. He sincerely apologized and stated he would advise the manager the next morning. I approached the manager the next morning and explained what happened. Rather than an apology or other appropriate action, the manager was rude, held up a pile of what appeared to be 5-7 notes and snidely remarked about having too much to do. We never did get an explanation nor an apology from the manager. We don't expect to return to the area but, if we did, we would not even think of staying here again.

We stayed at this hotel in late July. My husband came to town for a Christmas tree convention and myself and 2 kids tagged along to hang out at the hotel and around town.
The positives: the staff at the front desk was friendly and the breakfast was fine.
The negatives: the room was SMALL. It was the biggest room they had and that was laughable. It seemed like they had a checklist of furniture that had to be in the room and it was ALL crammed in there. There wasn't enough room to hardly walk around. We had to push the desk chair against the wall just to be able to walk through. When we pulled out the sleep sofa-you couldn't walk through. The room was sort of divided by the bathroom. So the front half of the room was not only small, but dark. Instead of the room going longways across the windows, it went back against one window. The ceilings were low also and it made it even feel smaller. The cloth chair and sofa were filthy. The armrests had brown, ground in dirt/filth. They were gross. I'm not sure there were clean sheets on the sofa bed. I was in the room for 15 minutes and drove around town for the next hour trying to get another room. For various reasons we couldn't get a room for the next few nights with a hotel that had a functional pool. So we stayed here for the next 2 nights and left for home a day early. We were supposed to spend 3 nights. Also this chain is known for it's free cookies. Well this place had 2 smashed cookies at the front desk or none. It highly disappointed us. I took a picture of an empty cookie container but had trouble posting it. The breakfast area could obviously not accommodate everyone and some people just left mad. The pool was dirty also. I took a photo that showed mold, bugs, and trash all in 1 photo at the pool, but couldn't post it either. The breakfast lady could easily get some tips if she would just smile or say a word or 2. She was a sourpuss.
We had stayed at another Country Inn & Suites the night before we arrived at this one and it was great. This one shouldn't even carry the same name. When we left on the third day and were in the car driving home my daughter asked when vacation was going to start! I guess that was her feelings about the hotel also. It cost slightly under $150 a night to stay here. It wasn't worth it.

It's a fairly new hotel just off a highway at a traffic circle, and it doesn't make a great outdoor impression--there is not a lot of parking, some of it is rather hard to get to, and part of the lot was not lit at night. Indoors, however, I found it to be a comfortable and well-equipped facility with a helpful, friendly staff. The small indoor pool and hot tub were a plus, and the hot breakfast was very good. I'd say it's somewhat above average but could use some "image building" outside to make it compete with other nearby hotels a little better. And holding the line on cost will help--there are some nicer facilities nearby.

We travel quite frequently and almost always stay at Country Inn & Suites. So when we decided to come to Valpo, we immediately searched for and found this hotel. We were very excited because we knew what to expect...fantastic service, clean and spacious rooms, and a delicious breakfast. Unfortunately that is not what we found when we arrived for our 4 night stay. The room was so dirty, if I didn't see the made bed and folded towels, I wouldn't have thought it had been cleaned. I'm sure our room wasn't vacuumed before we arrived. There are lots of stains on the floor and arm chair. The toilet looks as if it hasn't been scrubbed in over a year. There was trash under the dressers and side tables when we arrived and it was never picked up. The faucet and handle in the shower were spotted as if they hadn't been wiped since the last time someone took a shower. There is a mysterious yellow substance in the freezer of the refrigerator, and I was afraid to put any of our ice packs in it.
After the first "cleaning" during our stay, it was evident our room still hadn't been vacuumed, so I asked the front desk if I could borrow a vacuum to do it myself. A woman grabbed a vacuum from the office and immediately came up to vacuum our room. The rest of our stay was fairly uneventful. However, I did not let our kids walk barefoot on the floor and tried to keep them from sitting on the floor as much as possible. Also, when they took a bath, I put a hand towel in the tub for them to sit on since I wasn't sure it was ever cleaned.
The staff is really nice and helpful, unfortunately there just isn't enough of them to properly maintain this hotel.
This Valpo location does not represent the Country Inn & Suites brand at all! We will not be returning.
