“Clean and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

My husband and I stayed here one night on August 17. The hotel was very clean. Even the carpet in the room felt OK in my bare feet. We had a ground floor room and got a fridge and microwave that I wasn't expecting. Only two negatives as far as I'm concerned. First, the pool was closed when we arrived because they had to do a repair. I was disappointed, but that's OK. Repairs need to be done. The website said that they had waffles at breakfast and I was hoping for the hot, make it yourself waffles, but these were toaster waffles. There was fruit, cereal and yogurt, though so we got enough for breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room as I didn't see an elevator.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel the end of July. We had a very nice experience, clean room, and very comfy bed. Some of the reviews I have read say that the a/c doesnt work very well...well let me be the first to say that in the night my wife had to turn it down because she was freezing in our room. I would also guess that the hotel has recently went non-smoking, and the smell of cigarettes was noticeable in the hallways, but if it had been smoked in it will take time to get the smell out. I used to be a smoker and didnt have any problems staying there. I would return in a heartbeat.

The Super 8 is probably one of the least expensive hotel in Valpo, but that doesn't mean it isn't a decent place to stay. I arrived at an odd time of day, extremely tired from travelling. The staff found me a room in minutes and let me check on well before the traditional check in time. My room was very clean and large. The vending selection was adequate and not too expensive. The location is convenient to banks, fast food and shopping. I slept in too late for breakfast, but it is included in the price. The only real con I found for this place is the noise. It is right off of US 30 and you can hear the traffic.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel, it is probably less noisy.

This hotel must have recently gone non-smoking because the smoking odor still is strong in every hallway and in our room.

Air Conditioning in second floor struggles in summer.

Breakfast was not even average for a entry level hotel.

Room Tip: Lower Level for A/C.

Stayed here for a couple nights at around $70. There are some other hotels in town that are nicer but they are more expensive. The double beds were clean and comfortable, didn't use the TV, a/c-heater is quiet but has no option for just a fan setting. Bathroom was small with small round toilet (with paint cracks) and molded shower. Shower was clean, ample soap and shampoo. Sink outside of bathroom door. Room was clean, but there were blood drop stains on the carpet around the sink (first impression of room) that are unappealing. Front desk friendly, free newspaper. Didn't eat breakfast but there wasn't much there to eat. Go to Around the Clock in town (2 miles) for a good, inexpensive breakfast. The construction crew is still there but now park around the outside of the parking stalls. Guys were tracking mud into the hotel but the hotel put up a sign and the workers complied. Seemed like friendly guys and were quiet. No problems with noise. Pool small and didn't see anyone using it.

Not sure where to start on this motel. Generally I have had reasonable luck with Super 8 but not this one. I had just finished a 1000+ mile drive when I arrived at this motel. There was no place to park. Seems there was a construction crew there that parked all the trucks so they took up two spaces. I was able to squeeze in between an out of state plated van and mini van. When mentioned to the desk clerk the suggestion was I may find a parking spot down the street. At the room, the first sign one sees is that the towels are inventoried and anything missing would be deducted from the credit card used to check in. Hm... maybe that why the room had no clock. A trip to the front desk produced a working clock radio. The room did have all the shampoo and conditioners and nicely folded towels one would expect in this price range. Didn't much care for the big rips, stains, loose folds in the carpet nor the fact it needed to be replaced. The furniture certainly had seen better days and one kept thinking it would be rejected by a thrift store. The sink, although clean had multiple cracks and needed replacement. The heating / air conditioning was marginal in doing its job and the noise from it was loud, but not enough to drown out the noise from the other rooms and hallway. I was going to give this place a one, however the bed was comfortable and I didn't get any bed bug bits.
