“Good Pitspot in Illinois”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2009

I spent one night in the Hampton Inn on a drive east. I used Hilton Honors points for the stay, so price paid wasn't the issue, but the award redemption value was. I reserved a non-smoking room with two beds.

The hotel is adjacent to I-70, so it was easy to access from the highway. My room did not face the highway, so I did not have any problem with outside noise.

The grounds look good. The lobby area is clean and inviting. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Check-in was fast. The attendant at breakfast was cordial and made sure the breakfast area was clean and stocked.

The room included breakfast, which featured sausage, cooked eggs (something like a prefab over-hard fried egg), yogurt, muffins, English muffins, cereal, fruit, coffee and juice. I don’t expect much from an included breakfast at an American hotel, but like most Hampton Inns, this one was good.

The room itself was ok. It was roomy and generally clean. There were some signs of age that needed attention. The caulk in the tub was cracking. The shower diverter required some coaxing to switch between tub and shower. There was a poor attempt at repairing a worn spot on the bathroom door. None of these were really problems per se, but I expect a higher standard from a Hampton Inn. Again, these maintenance needs did not distract from my stay, but I hope that they will be corrected soon.

I see other reviews have given this Hampton poor reviews. My experience overall was good, but since the room was paid for reward points, I didn't have the same value-for-the-money comparison.

I rarely give a 5 rating, reserving that for truly exceptional stays. The staff was stellar, but the room needed some minor attention.

I would stay here again. (CS)

Normally, we like the value of Hampton Inns. However, many of the older buildings are falling into decline like this one. The Hampton Terre Haute was worn, with very uncomfortable beds. It is situated between a busy highway and a 24-hour gas station, so that there is no quiet room. Hampton Inn should close this facility - it is not even an average Hampton.

Found the stay to be average. Room was large and clean, king size bed was comfortable. The included breakfast was my definition of standard: juice, cereal, yogurt, bagels & pastries, sausage bisquits, and coffee. Rated it average because I thought the rate was high ($110 per night) for the Terre Haute area for the services provided.

Hotel was clean and room was large, but bed was exceptionally uncomfortable! I had two double beds, and even tried switching but both were equally bad. Sheets were itchy and they had that ugly non-breathable brown synthetic blanket that seems ubiquitous in some hotel chains these days. Yuk!

Breakfast selections were 95% unhealthly -- difficult for someone who cares about good nutrition.
