“Needs maintenance and change of decor.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

The beds were comfy, linens were clean. The staff was courteous and helpful. We especially want to thank the night desk clerk (9:00 -10 PM) for helping us. The breakfast buffet was decent. However, this hotel needs some maintenance and an update. Wallpaper is peeling, needs lighting in doorways, eighties patterns for curtains, rust came out with bath water when it was turned on and water controls did not work well, etc. It needs a facelift. We were there on a football weekend and paid through the nose for this room. (As much as a deluxe resort room at Disney!). I know some gouging is to be expected on game weekend but I do expect a certain level of room for the cost. I wouldn't stay here again.

Water stains on the ceilings, peeling wallpaper, scuffed and stained carpets, burned/brown light fixture in the bathroom. Shower temperature ran hot and cold, could not maintain setting. Hallways had a stale smell.

On the bright side, the room was spacious and the beds comfortable. Linens fresh, room seemed clean overall. Free garage parking. Front desk staff friendly and helpful.

Would definitely opt for someplace else next time, although the place has potential if they would do a little renovation!

First the holiday inn sign was still outlined on the building. The rooms were outdated and when we first arrived there was no power in our room. The thermostat did not work so our room was 80 degrees the entire night. Not a great place to stay.

The hotel is old and has a moldy smell. The customer service was great. The shower was not if great quality. The only temperature of the heat and air is cold. There is no ventilation in the bathroom. There is no microwave. The pillows are lumpy. There is a chase ATM. This was not worth $89.99 per night. The night auditor, Josh, was awesome.

For the price this hotel was acceptable, nothing elegant or luxurious, but I got a good nights sleep without hearing neighbors through the walls, which is very important to me. Apparently this was an old Holiday Inn as some items in the rooms still had that name on them. The room was clean, the shower was old/moldy and didn't look appealing. I only used the room for about 5 hours to sleep. Parking was convenient. The beds and linens seemed old, they could use updating, but I slept alright. The location of the hotel was perfect, 2 blocks from downtown where I needed to be. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better the view of South Bend.

This place is a bit older and downtown a few blocks from the river and Century Center. Room was clean and had the usual layout. King bed with white linens, chair with ottoman, desk and office chair, medium size flat screen TV on a dresser, and a small ledge with coffee maker and supplies. The only toiletries were soap and shampoo (ok for me). No fridge or micro. Had a hair dryer. We stayed one night and got in late so didnt use anything else. Nice clean bath but we had to run the water in the tub cause it was brownish for a short time. Sink water was ok. Both stayed hot a long time. We had a thermostat in the room so no air handling unit in the wall under the window like you see everywhere. This meant it was really quiet (and dark) in the room. So, we could hear the elevator till about midnight. After that no noise. My husband thought the bed was a little hard but I was very comfy. There is a free parking garage. No breakfast included. There is a coffee shop on the corner. Desk people were very friendly. Decor is not new but not really old either. Had a nice shower curtain and the bath was very clean. We'd stay there again. Note: I can't figure out how to remove the accidental one dot for the breakfast. It should be no dot as there is no breakfast.

Room Tip: 15th floor had a good view but get a room away from the elevator.

I enjoyed my stay overall at the Magnuson Grand Hotel. Desk clerk was friendly, parking was convenient, room was clean, and the view was wonderful!!! It is a location that has switched brands as some items were still old hotels branding on them, but overall, for the cost and location, very pleased.
