“Exquisite!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

The Carriage House is the finest restaurant in Michiana (northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan.) The owners have set high standards for every aspect of their establishment -- the grounds and garden are well-tended; the atmosphere is elegant; the quality and presentation of food is superb; the wine selection is unmatched; the team of servers/bartenders/bussers is professional, knowledgeable and exceptional -- and we are always impressed. Beautiful fresh flowers, silver serving pieces, piped butter instead of square little pats, even the way guests are seated so you're not staring into the faces of the people at the next table -- the attention to detail adds to the experience and does not go unnoticed. Many high-end restaurants in Chicago cannot compare to the elegance and quality of The Carriage House. We love The Carriage House and recommend it highly.

“38 years of fine dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Carriage House continues to be one of the top dining experiences in Northern IN. Portions are generous and I would recommend splitting an entree. The R and R salad is presented very nicley and mixes wonderful flavors of cheese, walnuts and raisins. We also enjoyed the Oysters Rockefeller.

“Golden Eye”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Maureen, James and Mary Reidy and I had another over the top experience at CH. we have eaten here at least twice a year for over 35 years and I can honestly say without exception these were the finest dining experiences we have ever had. When you have Judy, Sabrina and the great food and atmosphere, you have the makings of another great evening. Thanks for the memories.

“Food not up to expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

The Carriage House is a lovely place but on this last visit we were disappointed in the food. I ordered the red snapper and it was really fishy and the accompanying sides were not that great either. My asparagus came out on my wife's plate (she had a filet) so we had to swap. Also, the pricing on both the soup ($18/bowl) and the filet ($68) were pretty high for the quality of the food. service was great as always.Wine list is pretty good but again fairly steep. You expect a mark up on the wine in a restaurant but not that much.

VALUE

Thank you for choosing The Carriage House Dining Room last week.  As the Owner I take pride in the high quality of service and product we provide our customers.
After researching your concerns with Chefs and Service Staff, this is what I found.
The fish that was served was Red Snapper and was flown in that day.  It was met with rave reviews from all guests.  Nothing was returned to the Kitchen and no Service Staff was notified or had any suggestion that the fish was anything but excellent.
Value means many things, especially in a fine dining establishment such as mine.  But if equated with money spent, you chose two elite items, Stone Crab Chowder and USDA Prime Bone-In Filet.
Both are not served by any other restaurant in Indiana.  There are many reasons for that, such as, ability/experience to source the finest products in the world, having customers who enjoy the best, and restaurants understand as quality increases - profit margins decrease.
We do have similar courses which are less than half the cost.  In fact, our customers have appreciated for years that while we have the highest quality, we have also the most varied menu in the world in terms of cost.
As an example, we have a Price Fixe menu now for three courses at $35.00 which includes fresh Florida Stone Crab, one of the elite products in the world I mentioned earlier.
No one matches our quality, choices, and pricing.
We are only expensive if you want us to be.
The exact same calculation can be made with our wine list, the best in the state.  One can order a $30.00 or a $3000.00 bottle.  Again, more choices with more price points does not mean we are expensive.  That is VALUE.
I look forward to exceeding your expectations when you allow us another chance.
