“Okay Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2009

I am wrting this review from the room at Santa's Lodge. Upon checking in yesterday, most peoples roms were not ready. They mentioned something about the flu and a lot of people being out. The front desk folks seemed nice in handling the situation.

The room is okay. There are only about 10 channels on the tv, but you could pick up on their wireless. The bathrooms looked clean. It wan not a bad deal for $114/night. We are not trying any of the buffets, so I cannot review those. I would stay here and have the 2 minute ride to Holiday World rather than the 15 - 20 minute drive to the interstate.

Thankfully we only had to stay here one night. We stayed here because it was close to Holiday World and looking at the lodge's website it looked decent enough. Wish I would have read the reviews. I agree with all the terrible ones. The bed was like plywood and pillows were a slab of polyfill. Needs a major renovation and deep cleaning. In fact, it would be better to tear the whole place down and build another. Everything about it was nasty. The staff tried to be helpful but they were clueless. We did not eat the nasty looking buffet but had trouble finding other options in Santa Claus. Woke up the next morning after a restless night on the crappy bed, didn't even touch the nasty shower, got the kids up and got out as quickly as possible. This hotel is way overpriced and a huge disappointment. I recommend staying in Jasper about 13 miles from Santa Claus.

This was the most uncomfortable bed and pillow I have ever slept on. The bathrooms had crud in the corners on the floor. The shower curtain was dirty with mold. The rate on this room should be around $50...when in fact it was $138 (with taxes). We will NEVER stay in this lodge again. We are not fussy people, but this place is not worth the price. The buffet was also very expensive. If you do have to stay here, plan on sleeping on what feels like plywood. You may also have better luck wading a t-shirt up for a pillow. Please don't waste your hard earned money on this place....even though it's close to Holiday World, drive a little to a better hotel.

Very disappointed in my stay here. They need to follow the business goals of Holiday World. This was the most unconfortable bed that I have ever slept in, my bath room would had made a great MOLD science project for someone. Wall paper in halls and my room was either rolling off or had been pulled off in some degree.

Staff members were less than pleasant to deal with. For what the rates were for the rooms, I surely expected at the least a clean room.

The atmosphe're was so bad we canceled our res. on the spot. Sadly we didn't come to this site to read reviews until after the face but we were lucky and found a room in nearby Jasper, IN. (20 min drive and worth it.)

There were several people already complaining in line in front of us. Had to take my 3 yr old daughter to the bathroom which is downstairs right across from the "buffet" (horrible-looking) The crud-encrusted toilet and toilet seat looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in days.. We were given a room number that we couldn't find... Some poor souls who had checked in and were standing outside told us that they had a similar room - They were located in a mysterious hallway not accessible by elevator on the second floor.

They demand total payment by CC over the phone we you res. Needless to say with all the bad signs we demanded a cancellation of any and all charges. Stay in Jasper at either the Holiday Inn Express or Hampton INN. You will have to drive a little while to get to the park but it will be well worth it and even CHEAPER. You have been warned! (again)

I'm not here to slam this place for no reason, as we are in the restaurant/hospitality business ourselves, but this is simply unexcusable...

I booked a room and then read the reviews. Needless to say, I was expecting to pay way too much money for a dump with no amenities. We encountered a very pleasant surprise. We booked a family suite (almost $200/night) and I think we ended up in the newly added part. The room was spacious (bathroom too) and updated. We had a large TV with DVD player, small area like a wet bar (sink, microwave, mini fridge, counter, cabinet and drawer). It was clean and well stocked with plenty of linens and toiletries. We did eat dinner at their restaurant after returning from Holiday World. Food wasn't great for the price but it was edible and staff was very nice. There is a pizza place across the street with a buffet of pizza and regular food such as fried chicken, soup, salad veggies and spaghetti for only 6.99, much cheaper than the lodge. Yes the lodge was noisy but of course it's full of excited kids. I never travel without my ear plugs. Pools were nice and clean and they continuously brought out fresh pool towels. I think the place is a little pricey but it is right by the park.

Tourist Trap should be the name of this place. There is no room once you walk into the doors and stand in line to check in during the afternoon. We went to our MOLD room and quickly went back to the front desk to see about another room. The receptionist was RUDE but offered three other rooms that we looked at before we choose one. One of the housekeepers gave directions to the best rooms in the hotel which are on the new addition, which we choose. The family suites are well overpriced with the worst beds. We choose the queen delux room with thick beds and it had a microwave and fridge. Our room was clean surprisingly since the housekeeping department was well under staffed. Luckily the lady who cleaned our floor told us that she doesn't care how long it takes to clean a room as long as it gets clean. The sheets on teh beds were thin and the pillows were one flat and one lumpy. The tv got seven channels and could be updated. Beware of walking in the hallways in the mornings as you will have to weave your way through the piles of sheets, blankets, and trash scattered throughout the halls. Don't bother asking for extra blamkets or pillows from this place as they are only washed if there are a stain on the blanket just like the comforters. The food in this place sucked for the buffet that did not include drinks. This place must make a killing during the summer and be DEAD in the winter. I guess if you were only payed minimum wage you wouldn't care too much about your job either.
