“A wonderful, luxurious, romantic escape!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We stayed at Langoed Allingastate in September 2012 - a romantic weekend away for my partner and I. We could not have chosen a more appropriate and relaxing place.
The location is in the middle of the Fries countryside - you have the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere - a rare feeling in the busy Netherlands and yet it is within easy driving distance of Amsterdam, and there are enough towns nearby with restaurants and other distractions if you so desire.
The estate itself is beautiful - surprisingly recently built, but with the air of a classic, gentlemen's residence. We had the self contained "suite" which is detached from the main building and consequently is incredibly private - complete with it's own outdoor jacuzzi overlooking the fields. It was so relaxing to come back to the estate - and our little suite - after a day of sightseeing or cycling and relax in the jacuzzi with delicious wine and snacks that are available from the main house.
It is possible to have breakfast in either the main house or in the privacy of your room - we tried both - and both were equally delicious and wonderfully prepared.
Additionally, they can arrange for a "personal chef" to come on site and prepare you a dinner in the main dining room. We did this on one evening and it was simply spectacular! A very memorable experience, where the chef himself came to explain the dishes - most of which used local organic produce. The house has a fine wine selection, to both accompany meals, or if you feel like a drink in the lovely garden or in your room.
Due to the fact that the property is relatively small and has only a few rooms, it has a wonderful intimate feel to it - and the service provided by Maarten and Miranda is exceptional!
Maarten acts almost like a personal butler - which although was a little bit intimidating at first (I am simply not used to such a luxury - who is?) made for a very carefree and relaxing stay. From the delicious bon bons that were brought with our freshly brewed coffee, to the wonderful local cheese selection that accompanied the memorable wine, that was brought to the jacuzzi - it was a wonderful experience.
The Fries countryside where the estate is located is beautiful and there are bikes available either at the estate or just down the road at the open air museum. We spent one day cycling through the beautiful countryside, doing some birdwatching on the inland sea, and exploring the small historic towns.
All in all, Allingastate is a wonderful place to escape to - and incredibly affordable when you consider the unforgettable experience you will have.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Spoil yourself and go for the self contained suite with the jacuzzi! Simply gorgeous!

We stayed at Estate Allingastate in September 2012; just a weekend away with the two of us, for a change of scenery and some piece and quiet. We couldn't have picked a better place to do so!

Estate Allingastate looks like an old farm estate, but is relatively new. Although it could have turned out kitsch, it is done very tasteful and chic. We stayed in the little (wedding) bungalow/suite at the back of the garden opposite the main building. This suite had its own jacuzzi on the veranda, overlooking the fields behind the bungalow.
When we arrive we were greeted by Maarten - who turned out to be our 'private butler' - and Miranda, the owner/managing director of the Estate. We immediately felt welcome and at ease.

The room is big and nicely decorated. The bathroom still needs to be renovated, but is very clean, it is just very basic and doesn't have the atmosphere you expect when you see the rest of the room. There was a tray of chocolates waiting for us and they asked whether we wanted something to drink. After we finished the coffees, we went to explore the surroundings a bit. When we came back we asked for some wine, for us to enjoy while in the jacuzzi. The wine was brought to us in the jacuzzi, with some snacks to go with it and turned out to be complimentary (not sure whether this is normal service, or just a one off - but we were touched).

I am not going to sum up all that Miranda and Maarten did to make us feel like Kings, but they succeeded very well. At first we were a bit uncomfortable with a 'private butler', but we got used to it very soon, as it was done so warm heartedly.

We also arranged for a private cook to prepare us a birthday diner. This was exquisite!
The last day we choose to have the breakfast basket and eat breakfast in our room. This was not a silly little basket with a couple of bread rolls and ham, cheese and jam, but a full blown breakfast!

All this sounds so luxurious that it might scare people of, because they think it might be too expensive, but it is not! Prices are absolutely affordable, especially if you experience what you get in return.

I can just say: if you would like to see some of the countryside of The Netherlands and are looking for a get away with the two of you...consider Landgoed Allingastate!

Thank you Miranda and Maarten for your hospitality, your warming personalities and your excellent service!

Room Tip: Try to stay at the guest bungalow. The rooms in the main building look very nice, but the guest bung...
