“Great park - wonderful outdoor opportunities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I grew up camping in this park. The campground now has shade and still has nice shower houses. Things seemed to go downhill for awhile as a victim of budget cuts, but with the Friends of Harmonie group, things seem to be looking up. The Olympic size pool, diving boards and slide make the swimming area enjoyable for all ages. The shallow end is 2' with a 10 or 12' diving well. There's also a baby pool. It's always clean and enjoyable. If you hit the Indiana State Park pools often, I'd recommend a pool pass. Concessions available when the pool is open.

The hiking trails are well kept, wide and normally very easily passable. There are miles of opportunities for day hikers. I think that they now also have mountain bike trails and horse trails, but no horseman's campground.

If fishing is your thing, there are family fishing ponds that are good as well as a nice ramp to put your boat into the Wabash River.

The nature center has limited hours, but check it out when you're there as the naturalist usually has activities for the kids.

Family cabins are available for rent. You have to bring everything you need though (bed sheets, towels, etc.).

Campground sites are roomy and grassy. 30 amp service at all sites. I'm not sure if they have 50 amp yet or not. They've allowed more "campground hosts" and volunteers to set up permanent sites with decks, etc. I think it looks a little trashy, but I suppose that's a trade off for the free labor.
Pack a picnic or take a camping trip and you'll be guaranteed a wonderful time at HSP.

This state park is very nice and is located near an interesting little towm worth visiting New Harmony. The town has nice cafe that is very old and visited routinely by the locals. The town has historical sites that are worth seeing for sure.

“The Harmonists had a great idea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

The historical site of the Rappite Utopian society known as the "Harmonists" migrated from Pennsylvania to southwestern Indiana in the early 19thy century. Many of the original buildings remain and guided tours are provided. In addition to the State Park, the town of New Harmony is quaint and a delightful part of the experience.
