“Amazing place, amazing staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013 via mobile

Our first stop on our Zambian adventure, it was absolutely beautiful. The guides were so sweet, knowledgable and experienced. The staff were always smiling and eager to help. The food was spectacular and the accommodation was very comfortable. Thanks for a memory we will keep for life

We've just come back from an amazing holiday at Kasaka River Lodge and Chongwe River Camp. We've stayed at Kasaka before but this holiday was the best yet. The staff were wonderful, a big thank you to Nobby and Joseph our guides and Bruce and Jane. It was lovely to see Lewis again, anyone visiting should go out fishing with him.

The food cooked by Derek was delicious and he even made special meals for our 5 year old. Game drives were amazing, we saw fantastic game and had some wonderful Lion sightings.

Words can't describe how amazing Kasaka and Chongwe are and we feel blessed to have had the opportunity to stay at both camps. Can't wait to go back next year.

My wife and I just returned from a short trip to Zambia.

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Kasaka River Lodge and the Chongwe River Camp.

The Kasaka staff instantly made us feel welcome and nothing was to much trouble for them.

Fantastic location, great accommodation. Food was excellent.

The trip just went far to quickly and we will definitely be back.

We stayed at Kasaka for four nights in July and cannot think of any bad points, it was all excellent. The choice of activities (which was one our original selection criteria with two teenage boys), the food, the location (on the river and 5 mins drive from the airport landing strip) and most of all the friendly and welcoming staff. I think that during our trip we tried all the activities on offer, fishing trips with the brilliant Lewis, boat cruise, safari game drives and walk, canoeing and the visit of the village.
July was winter period and the nights were quite fresh, but the ponchos provided for the game drives and the hot water bottles left in our bed were lovely little attentions that made us feel very well looked after.
There was less game to see than in the South Luangwa, but the water activities compensated for this, especially recommend the afternoon canoeing down a peaceful arm of the main river. It was a wonderful experience, getting so close to the animals without the noise of a safari car to disturb them.
As indicated the food was superb (especially the home cooked bread). We really enjoyed sitting at a large table and sharing experience and stories with the other guests, the guides and the staff. We loved learning about the local life and will definitely also look for this set up in our future safaris, as yes we will now do more, loved it so much.
Also don't forget to visit the local village were most of the staff families live. It is a humbling experience to see how they live outside the camps and the culture, knowledge and happiness they shared with us.
Thank you so much for this experience.

Room Tip: In the rooms away from the pool lawn, you are less likely to be kept awake by the elephants going th...

We had a great time at Kasaka River Lodge. Our family of four was in the Hippo Pod, and my father in a "tent" on the tame side of the property. We were the only ones on the property, and meals were served at the Hippo Pod for the five of us. Service was fantastic.

Kasaka River Lodge was our first game viewing lodge, and it was a great start to our trip. The location of the tents, all with fabulous river views, was beautiful. We had morning and night game drives, and enjoyed our sundowners on a river cruise one evening. Amazingly peaceful.

We traveled during the 'shoulder season' so the game was spread out more than it might be further into the dry season, but we had a great close-up encounter with three lions, many elephant sightings, and saw a large (60+) herd of buffalo.

A huge thank you to all the staff, from Jane and Mwaka upon our arrival, to Joseph our incredible guide, to John at 'home' and Bryson the chef.

Room Tip: All have fantastic river views. The Hippo Pod is great for a family/group of four.

We arrived at Kasaka River Lodge after a bad day due to a clerical error at the flight company.
On our arrival at Kasaka the warm welcome we received from Jane and Mwaka and everyone else, soon calmed us down and the stresses dissipated.
The whole place is impressive, the main area is overlooking the Zambezi, our tent/room was superb, it was on the “wild side”, also looking over the river. Inside the room there is a large bed with nice furniture and plenty of space and attached is a luxury open roofed en-suite.
As a vegetarian it’s always interesting for me to see how much trouble that causes, to the chefs at Kasaka – non whatsoever! The food was excellent. Everything was efficient and the staff were polite.
Our guide was Nobby whose knowledge and humour made our game drives so interesting. He was ably assisted by Nasi, they were made to work hard, as the time we were there the wildlife was playing hard to get, but get it they did, we even saw an aardvark! Best of all if they didn't know the answer they wouldn't make it up - the reference books came out.
The numerous activities meant we were spoiled for choice, the canoe trek was a highlight of the whole trip. The boat trip was a great way to relax, sundowners watching the sun set behind the escarpment. The bush walk which could have been hard in the heat was relaxed and with Nobby imparting his knowledge and wisdom was over all too quickly.
We had a luxury open air bath with our room, but with game drives and activities coming round fast and furious, with 5am starts, superb midday lunches at the lodge, evening sundowners in the bush and three course dinners, we didn’t get a chance to use it!
We asked Matt at Zambia Architects to come up with something special to finish our trip and he certainly did that with Kasaka River Lodge.

This was our first trip to Africa and Kasaka River Lodge is unforgettable. All of the staff members are welcoming and attentive in every way. Wherever we travel we make an effort to mingle with the Staff and we were excited that would share. From family to school to traditional customs, it was great.

The setting of the Lodge is beautiful with the Lower Zambezi right at your footsteps. It's amazing how much is seen from the central dining area. They really should name it the "Lodge Safari".

The options for activities are nearly endless. They offer water, walking and drive safaris, fishing, canoeing, relaxing, socializing, etc... as much or as little of each, nothing was ever a bother. In our 3 days we did water and drive safari's daily and tried fishing twice.

The Safari's are unbelievable, wildlife abound. The guides are very knowledgeable and considerate of the guests. Some of the guest that accompanied us were mainly interested in birds, others not so much. The guide took this into consideration and spent equal time stopping for photo op's to suit everyone.

As others have stated, the Rooms are located on either the "wild side" or the "tame side" but don't let this fool you. We stayed on the tame side and had visitors every night. Laying in bed, we could hear the Hippos chomping on the grass and one night a Lion passed by letting out a roar... I was so scared that I couldn't even wake up my husband! Good thing others heard it too or he may not believe me.

On our first day of arrival we were celebrating our 27th anniversary. When we returned from the night Safari that night, the staff set up our deck with candles and a chilled bottle of champagne with a congrat's card. Nice touch Kasaka!

I do have to give praise to Aardvark Safari Lodge who helped us select Kasaka as one of our Lodge destinations, booking through them was really hassle free. This truly was a trip of a lifetime.
