“Welcomed to choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

We were walking to the restaurant and as we approached the door was opened for us. It was such a nice surprise - they welcomed us in such a lovely way and it shows attention being paid even before you reach the door.

What was another lovely surprise was - apart from the a la carte menu - options to create your own pizza or sandwich - and sandwiches are made with bread baked on the premises daily and available from the deli section. My friend chose the cheese and charcuterie platter for one which was more than adequate - the platter was beautifully constructed and included homemade beetroot chutney and another made with gooseberries.

I made my own sandwich and it was delicious - and included a fresh side salad.

Edmund - our waiter - was fantastic - very personable and charming.

We will definitely return - there's a lot more to be tried. Oh, your coffee comes with chocolate brownies - also available from the deli - which are so, so moreish!.

“Delectable artisan food and wine pairing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2014

We were a group of 8 vegetarians traveling from California and Munich, some of us discovering the Cape wine region for the first time. We started off with an absolute highlight. JeanPierre, the chef at Lust Bistro and Bakery at Vrede en Lust winery, was kind enough to take the time to create a special artisan food and wine pairing for us. Even my finicky mother was delighted with his creations and we couldn't decide which item was our favorite. The pairings were spot on and made it much easier for us to notice and remember the nuances of each wine. The menu speaks for itself, but the presentation and flavors have to be experienced first hand!

Semillon: Butternut and Almond Risotto Croquette
Barrique: Chickpea Salad
Riesling: Pan-fried Polenta
Something Sweet: Frangipane Disc with Orange Marmelade
Pinot Noir: Caprese Pizetta Slice
Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon: Baguette Croute with Healey's Cheddar, Beetroot Chutney
Casey's Ridge Syrah: Sauteed Wild Mushrooms
Boet Erasmus: Dark Chocolate Truffle
