I grew up in an Italian neighborhood, and my wife is of Italian descent. Having moved here from the Chicago area 30 years ago, the wife and I (and eventually kids) would enjoy catching up on good Italian food when we visited family back in the Chicago area. However, Martino's has been an oasis for us: here we find authentic Italian food, like the neighborhood.
Martino's has the best bread in town, hands down (and available for carry out), and that is the foundation for great Italian sandwiches and food. Bread is king. Their sauces are real-deal Italian.
There are other very good Italian restaurants in town, and their food is excellent as well. Martino's niche is not gourmet, ritzy Italian, but rather the kind of food real Italians love on a daily basis. And no culture "lives to eat" quite like the Italians. A little advice: before you leave, patronize the take-out section of the restaurant and bring home a loaf of bread. We stop there regularly to bring home a loaf of bread. Be sure to keep the loaf whole; tell them "no" if they ask to slice it. Enjoy!
