This was definitely a worth-while stop, but I wish I'd known in advance how small it was, and what a small chunk of time it would take to visit. I had envisioned a larger operation and we drove up from Elizabethtown to visit, very excited to have something different to do. Not that big a deal, we were still happy to have gone! And it did give us an excuse to drive over to our favorite Cuban restaurant about 20 minutes away. ;-) All in all, if you don't take lunch into consideration, I would say plan on 30 - 40 minutes there for the actual candy-side of the operation (unless they're really busy and the shop is backed up). The whole "tour" consists of 3 rooms.
After reading other reviews, I'll say that while there was one less-friendly employee operating one of the cash registers (and it may just be her demeanor rather than her being rude or anything), the others, while perhaps not brimming over with enthusiasm, were at the very least sufficiently helpful. One woman, possibly an employee? possibly the owner?, was very friendly and welcoming.
We also had a toddler with us, and a 4 month old, and other customers there also had their toddlers with them. We were at no point asked to leave or warned we may be asked to leave. In fact, the (possible?) owner encouraged us to give the toddler a better view so she could see some of the candy-making action. It may be a little rough if trying to deal with any stroller but a little umbrella stroller though, especially if it's busy, and really you shouldn't need one.
The place itself is very charming, and if timing had worked out better, we would have definitely had lunch at the soda fountain. The antique vending machine WAS cool! And the Schimpff chocolates were absolutely delicious (though, I will note, we were not offered any free samples other than from a bowl of free little chocolate ball samples already sitting by the cash register). I would recommend swinging by if it's not too far out of your way.
