I was hesitant to stay here; I am in town for a conference and had to stay here for five days. It was not within my budget because I could not get a roommate for the conference; but I needed to be close to the Convention Centre. Every review I read on line was awful. So I am here to refute that...I know my stay is not over yet, but I want to tell you about Eric who works the front desk. I came in on Tuesday night and I had a serious glitch with my pay and my credit card!!! Not fun...I had just purchased an airline ticket the day before and I was in another hotel earlier that morning in Canada which froze part of my funds.

My pay is transferred automatically to my card, but that had not happened yet!!! So, I could only cover one night; at a time when the hotel was overbooked.

First of all Eric, was wonderful because a. he did not cancel my reservation, but let me pay for two nights and then put notes on my account. He was patient, and I feel went over and above his call to duty in helping me. I can honestly even say that as a Black Woman I was not treated with any prejudice or preconceived notions. He told me he trusted me...and I thank God he was so pleasant, patient and professional. My pay did come in early in the a.m. the next morning as promised, and I paid my balance about 4:00 am, as I said I would.

So, yes its expensive, yes sometimes the people at the desk when you call are comical and I have had a few experiences with that. But, at the end of the day, its how you are treated as a client that matters. Eric, to me did an excellent job, and I am very thankful for that.

Now I have three more nights left here, and so far I have had breakfast at Shula's Steak House and again I found the staff friendly and breakfast to me was pretty average for a hotel. $12.00 or eggs, potatoes, toast.

So to all of you who complained an almost made me stay in another hotel less convenient...I can say that so far I don't have any complaints.

I've stayed in nicer places for 1/3 the price. The pictures on the web make it look very appealing, but the rooms are dismal. The bed was comfortable, but the room was very small. The bathroom was unacceptable. It is a one-person bathroom at best, so if you're traveling with children, you will be miserable. The furniture looks worn, and the decor is certainly uninspiring. Basically, it looks like they bought furniture from Value City, slapped some granite on the surfaces, and called it a Westin. Forget about eating there. The prices are, literally, laughable. $18.00 for a breakfast omelet? Really? And DON'T open the fridge: the M and Ms are $4.00! No free internet in the room (at least 11 other downtown hotels DO offer this for free), and parking is $25 per night. While the in-room literature says there will be a paper outside my door each morning, it didn't happen. Despite knowing that there were four people in our room each night (we stayed four nights), housekeeping had to be called each day to bring more towels. Two sets are not enough for four people. The best thing about our stay? We ordered pizza from Pizza Express one night. They delivered it right to our room, and even brought us plates, napkins, and cups! Now that's service! And the pizza was delicious. In short, don't stay here. While the location is great, you can find a better value elsewhere, I'm certain of it. Maybe if you're a business traveler and your company is picking up the tab, you don't care. But as a family of four, we were very disappointed.

Dear abc68
Thanks for the review; we really do appreciate the feedback no matter what form it takes. While we can't be all things to all people, we can and should be cognizant of the needs of our guests while they are with us. There is no excuse for your room not being serviced daily as you pointed out and that issue will be addressed with the appropriate departments.

I'm sorry you did not feel that the property lived up to your expectations with regards to the size of the bathroom and some of the furnishings. We are continuously working to maintain the property, but there are something's that occasionally fall through the cracks.

I know how difficult it is to travel with a family. With 2 teenage boys of our own, it would be difficulty for us to stay at a downtown convention hotel. We typically look for more of a residential location where internet, breakfast and parking are included. Our property is admitidly not as family friendly as some would like. We can and should however do the things that make you feel welcome while you are here.

Again, I do appreciate your feedback and hope that someday you will again consider us for your hotel needs.

As others have said this is the typical business hotel where rooms are overpriced, internet is never included ($10 a day??--I was able to connect to the Indiana free wireless service coming from the capitol?), and other amenities are either missing or forgettable. I have never understood why Westin makes this big deal about a "Heavenly Bed" I mean what is the point of having a so-called heavenly bed if you are going to use sandpaper for sheets. And the special dual shower head???....I would just settle for water pressure instead. Public areas are kind of small and there is only one restaurant/bar (Shula's) where they serve overpriced steaks, watered down drinks, and indifferent service.

Stayed here with our young children while taking in some of the family friendly attractions available in Indy. Found this to be a very average Westin. Lobby area is fine, rooms are average with small bathroom. Location is convenient-walking distance to many restaurants and shopping. Beds are extremely comfortable. Check-in was very slow. We were #6 in line on a Sat at 4pm with only 1 person working the desk. Pool was uncomfortably cold(wouldn't have stayed here if we'd known that). We ate at the restaurant for breakfast(Shula's). The service was poor, food wasn't particularly good and was overpriced. We had booked the deal where breakfast is included-note that they give a set amount of credit on your bill. There is no breakfast buffet and with the prices they charge this was no great deal. Would definitely not book this type of package and would have breakfast elsewhere(there was a Starbuck's in the lobby and there is a shopping mall with restaurants and a Cinnabon's about 2 blocks away).
We are frequent visitors to Indy and are still looking for a top notch hotel experience. Have had mediocre experience at the Hyatt(although a few years ago). Will probably try the well reviewed Conrad Hilton next time. Looks like there is a JW Marriott being built in downtown Indy so something to look forward to!

Thanks for taking the time to post your comments about the your stay. We certainly appreciate your feedback and will use it to better everyone's experience. The temperature of the water in the pool and the available meal options for a family traveling with children are opportunities we can work to fix. Thank you again and we hope you will give us another try when you come back to Indy.

The Westin used to be the top choice in Indy...but not any more. The hotel is really starting to show signs of heavy wear and tear. The location is still good but the rooms are beaten up and the public spaces are just OK. They still have the Westin beds but that's about it. With the new Marriott going up 1/2 a block away and the Conrad about two blocks away, the Westin is now longer THE spot to stay in Indy. I think I'd rather stay at the Marriott almost right next door. Kind of sad to see the decline at the Westin.
