I stayed here as I was visiting the state capitol for business. The location is very good--right across the street from the capitol, and within walking distance of most of the rest of the city. But I agree that this hotel is somewhat schizophrenic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was comfy, typical of the other Westins I'd stayed at. But the bathroom was tiny, and the tub, tile and lighting had not been updated. The other thing that lost points for me was that they charge $2 for any call, including local and 800-numbers. I didn't notice that I had a $40 phone bill until after I left or I would have complained. My room had a not-so-lovely view of smokestacks.
I also ate at Shula's one evening when I was too tired to go out. It was the only halfway decent meal I had in Indy--this city has very bland taste in food and not a lot else going for it. The steak was good, but overall the meal was not worth $70. If you go, skip the sides.
Overall, I'd say this hotel was worth up to $150 a night (I paid slightly more, and I'm not sure why this city was so expensive). If you're here for business, do pick a nice hotel, because Indy is so boring you may end up just watching movies in your room. The last Westin I stayed at, in Long Beach, Calif., puts this one to shame.

My husband and I stayed on May 14th, just to get away. I had booked a king non-smoking through the Westin website over a month in advance. When we arrived, only a hour after the check in time, we were told our room was not available. We were offered a double bed, which is a far cry from a king. The reason, it was over booked and that was all they had left. I told them it was booked through Westin, not through another travel website, but to no avail. I told them my credit card had already been charged for the king room. The lady said the double was the best they could do and she would take away the difference, and throw in a free breakfast. With no other choices (all other hotels were booked solid for the indy 500 qualifying) I accepted. Upon check out the next day, $40.00 was the only amout credited (which was the amout promised for a free breakfast) and no other credit had been given. The lady who I had spoken with at check out was not there, and no one knew what I was talking about. So never again at a Westin!

Don't waste your money. The staff is rude and the management is unresponsive. We arrived on a late flight after calling twice to confirm. When we arrived we were told that our room had been given away. They offered a room but one that was far below what we had booked. They didn't even offer a discount on the rate until I complained. I was told that it was our fault they had given away our room because we were late and reservations were first come first served. We made our reservations 3 months in advance. We found a comparable room (to our reservation) across the street at the Hyatt for 1/2 the price. I called the the Westin the next day to speak with the manager. I was told he'd call me back. I'm still waiting.
