“Great hotel, outstanding location, awesome service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2010

Service was outstanding from the moment we pulled up. We were quickly greeted by the valet staff whom helped us get our bikes out of the back of our SUV as well as grab our bags. They checked our bikes into storage before we even got checked-in, which was nice b/c we didn't have to keep them in our 3rd floor room. Check-in was painless and we were given a free drink coupon and a 15% off coupon for the hotel's restaurant, which was pretty tasty. We were able to check in hours ahead of schedule and given a 2 p.m. checkout.

Other pros:
+Closest hotel to Lucas Oil Stadium, which has $7/adult tours on Tues. & Wed.

+Walking distance to everything, but for those who need rides, the shuttle (if available) will transport you around town. They dropped us off at the Indians game and left us with a card to call for pickup.

+Decent indoor pool

+Computers/printer for public use and free wi-fi in the room

Cons:

- Jacuzzi was down during our stay. Apparently they were waiting for parts ???

-Lack of HDTV in rooms. They have the old box tvs of yesteryear.

-If you are an extremely light sleeper the vibrations/noise from the trains passing may bother you. It didn't me though.

-$25/night Parking for valet which will soon be $27. Self park with no in/out doesn't save much $ though so valet is the way to go.

I am staying at this hotel on Wednesday night, and when I called to inquire about the transportation to and from the airport. A woman named Kesha answered the phone and became rather belligerent explaining the options. I haven't been to Indianapolis before and I found her attitude far less than helpful. After reading the other reviews, I was excited about staying at this hotel, however now I fear it is going to be a dreadful experience.

As the title says... My exprerience at Indy was made all the more enjoyable by the amazing staff at the Crowne Plaza over a busy Indy 500 week. From the moment we walked in, to the day we checked out, they went out of they're way to make our stay 'extra pleasant' & one to remember. Extremely Highly Recomended.
Thanks Guys.

Trip was actually a combination business & leisure. I was in town for a two-day seminar and "Hotwired" a downtown hotel to avoid an hour plus drive (one-way) each day. Then added a couple of nights for a mini-vacation (joined by my family on Friday afternoon). Very happy with our stay, at least partly because of the good rate from Hotwire.

The hotel was about what was expected very nice but it's not "top-of-the-line" fancy. Being in the old Union Station area was nice and, while we didn't get one of the Pullman suites, just seeing the cars was neat. Briefly:

Pros:
Location - *very* close to convention center & Lucas Oil stadium, close to all the downtown restaurants, night-life, entertainment, etc.
Friendly & efficient staff;
All the basics taken care of: clean, comfortable enough, everything worked (although in truth the bed was too soft for my taste, but that's personal choice);
Didn't nickel & dime as many hotels in this price range do, "business center" allowed free internet access & printing; valet parking, while not cheap (and we didn't use it) was only a few dollars more than self-parking and included in-out privileges;
Nice lobby, reasonable pool, etc.

Cons:
Some noise from the nearby train tracks, but nothing that bothered us (we were close, but not the closest rooms);
A nearby room was noisy before we left for dinner (and we were afraid it might be an issue), but it was quiet when we got back;
Location - while easily within walking distance of all the downtown stuff, it is not the most centrally located of the downtown hotels (but, still an easy walk to everything);
Night "light" as most (all?) of the rooms overlook the lobby rather then being exterior windows, there is some ambient light (I remember noting it was later than I thought it was and then realized it was because it was still light "outside") - that said, they have some *very* good blackout style drapes that completely took care of this issue.

Regarding an earlier review & "party rooms." As I mentioned we had some noise, but it wasn't a problem. I did notice the hotel has an official "quiet hours" policy (I believe starting at 10:00 pm) and, while we didn't have to, I was prepared to complain to the front desk and just put the problem in their lap.

Overall, very happy with our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again (especially at the Hotwire rate).

Our family visited this great historic hotel this week for two nights and I have to report that customer service is top notch at this hotel!!! My grandson's stay was made very special by our upgrade to a " train room". We found that Crowne Plaza has a very caring staff that goes out of their way to make your stay very enjoyable. We witnessed this with the clerk when we checked in, the valet service, and the gentlemen that was dressed like a conductor in the lobby who made our grandson's day! What a great place for a getaway. The "train rooms" were an unexpected delight, and as usual , downtown Indianapolis is a great place to visit with their great dining options...

The rooms in this hotel are fine, but it seems the Crowne Plaza has become the preferred choice for any kind of mass gathering. Our one-night stay on a Saturday night was marred by hundreds of girl scouts, several weddings, late night noise in the halls, in the pool area, in the elevators, lots of exciting activity in the rooms on either side (and thin walls). We are weary road dogs, and we have learned not to expect much sleep at any Crowne Plaza. Amenities are nice, but the primary function of any hotel is SLEEP. At the Crowne Plaza, however, the motto should be "...where the party never ends!"

Very cool hotel to stay in, the train car rooms are quite awesome!!! Perfect for something different to surprise the significant other.... also great for the kiddies who get to see a train inside their hotel!!! LoL Highly recommend booking the train car rooms over the standard room though as they can be a bit bland but still a nice stay for the price.

Good Day,

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to share your feelings about us. We take all comments very seriously and use them to grow and use them to celebrate. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay in our very unique hotel, it is not everyday one can stay in or touch a real pullman's car on it's tracks inside a hotel. Come and see us again when you are in Indy.
