When the girlfriend and I travel out of town, we like to look online for specials with Groupon and Living Social. I happened to find one that offered $20 worth of food for $10. I bought two and took them with me while visiting Indianapolis for a football game.
The restaurant looked nice when we walked in. They had a mix of drunk football fans and sober people just out for a meal. I personally don't mind either, but you can't have dudes passing out at the bar. I saw one wobbling around at the bar. He was gone within a few minutes, though I don't know if he was ushered out or left on his own. Personally, I love getting hammered. But no place wants a dude passing out on their bar.
Our waitress informed us we would have to use my coupons as separate transactions, which was no big deal. But the second you whip one of these coupons out, some servers act like you have a contagious disease and leave you stranded. That was the case here. She must have assumed we wouldn't tip well since we were getting a great deal on the food. I know better than to do that, however. Too bad she didn't.
My girlfriend got the nachos, which were okay by her standards. They came out looking like someone had just flung some shredded cheese on top and popped them in the microwave. Fortunately, there was a layer of spicier cheese at the bottom. If they had just covered the tortillas with that, it would have been much better.
I ordered a steak with bleu cheese. It was cooked pretty darn close to perfect, however the accompanying asparagus spears were greatly undercooked. My meal also came with some potato wedges and they were absolutely awesome.
We constantly found ourselves without a waitress, however. On one occasion, another waitress came and cleared our empty glasses for our missing server. It'd be one thing if it was only once or twice as I'm a pretty forgiving tipper, but alas, no. On at least four occasions we had to look around for our server. I placed an as in Craig's List. No luck there either. I searched the room for other tables that might be taking her time, but only found the one next to us. The final straw for me was realizing that she wasn't being made busy by other tables, but in the back eating (she was still chewing her food when she came back to our table).
When it was time to cash out, I left a small tip commensurate with the service. She seemed to think we weren't worth the effort because we had coupons. She couldn't have been more wrong. You have to TRY to get less than 20 percent from me. Congrats.
In summation, I would say this is an alright place, but nothing special.
