“Put this on your list of Indy sites to see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

For those who read Slaughterhouse Five in High School and fans of Kurt Vonnegut, this is an interesting small museum that can be included during most trips to Indy. Located not far from the Capitol Building, the Vonnegut Memorial Library/Museum is a short walk/drive from several downtown hotels. I received a personal tour by one of the staff members. One can see the typewriter he used, some of his paintings, family history items, a recreation of his writing area, copies of the books of his own library, a collection of his works, and much more for the Vonnegut student in all of us. Donations accepted; there is also a gift shop where you can buy books, posters, coffee mugs, t-shirts, etc.

“Vonnegut Fans Rejoice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Located in a small building just a few blocks from downtown Indianapolis is this quaint museum dedicated to Kurt Vonnegut. If you are a reader of Vonnegut you will enjoy this step back in time. The museum is free, and contains many pieces of original Vonnegut art and of course his books. A hostess walked around the two rooms and offered many stories about the exhibits, books and anecdotes on his life and time spent in the city.

The are some items that are available for purchase and a donation box to help support the museum. Being a long time fan of Vonnegut I was surprised to see books that I was not familiar with and also it brought back good memories of the books I read in my early years.

The visit will probably only take about 30-60 minutes but it is an interesting place and you may feel the urge to read one his books again after all these years...so it goes.
