“Great hotel, friendly and service oriented”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

My friends and I booked a room at the Alexander while attending Gencon 2014. We wanted a hotel that was close enough to the convention centre but far enough away to allow us to escape the crowds. The Alexander delivered top notch service on all fronts - the staff were friendly and helpful, the common areas stylishly decorated and comfortable and the rooms well appointed and quiet.

We did have problems with the hotel wifi but weren't in our room enough to take it up with the hotel so it is possible that our problems were isolated ones. Bathroom in our room didn't really have any place to hang towels so tossing them on the floor was basically our only option. Breakfast in the Market Table was tasty if simple, and with the addition of a buy one get one coupon from the front desk was very reasonably priced with the very thoughtful option of a coffee to go provided as you leave.

The hotel certainly went out of their way to serve Gencon attendees, setting aside a gaming room for the duration of the convention and pouring the convention official beer 'Froth of Khan' in the Plat 99 lobby bar. The bar also features a balcony with fire features making for a comfortable place to relax albiet one without much of a view.

We would absolutely stay at the Alexander again, it is a reasonably expensive hotel when compared to my usual choices, but with inflated conference hotel rates across the city the extra money did translate to extra service and an excellent experience.

Room Tip: It seems that the wifi drops off the further from the elevator you go - we saw guests crouching in t...

Green Features: No towel bar in our bathroom meant we had to discard towels on the floor and not re-use them - it's nice to have the choice to be green.

ekkridon,

It was certainly our pleasure to be your hosted hotel for GenCon 2014. We do always love when this convention comes around. I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed the extra touches we provided for our guests. I will pass along your comments about the wifi to our IT technician to ensure that we are not having any failures. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, as our wireless network is typically very fast. Thank you so much for choosing The Alexander as you home away from home during the convention, and we would love to have you back again next year.

Kind Regards,

The Alexander was a very comfortable hotel. The rooms were nice, common areas well decorated and comfortably appointed and all the staff we dealt with were friendly and service oriented. We were in town for Gencon 2014 and wanted a hotel that would be a refuge from the crowds and slightly away from the conference center. We enjoyed the breakfasts which were reasonably priced with the addition of a BOGO coupon from the front desk and the hotel provided a gaming room as many of the guests were also in town for Gencon.

The art in the hotel is beautiful and the furniture modern and clean. Fireplaces on the Plat 99 balcony, while not offering much of a view is a comfortable place to relax after a busy day.

Stayed here during B1G basketball tournament. Get access to BankersLife and downtown spots. The staff is top notch and attentive to our every need. I highly recommend staying here if you need a place while in downtown Indy.

Room Tip: For more room, ask for corner suite.

A truly unique hotel in an up and coming section of downtown Indy. Loved the art throughout the hotel. Incredibly attentive and friendly staff. Very graciously took care of an issue we had with housekeeping. Highly recommend this property as they are truly on top of their game. Location is a bit out of the way from the restaurants and such but a brisk block will bring you to where the action is.

My boyfriend surprised me with a night away at The Alexander for our anniversary this past weekend, and it exceeded our expectations on all regards. Entering the hotel and seeing beautiful works of art by Alyson Shotz, Paul Villinski, and other contemporary artists, I knew it was going to be a great night. We walked into the perfectly designed lobby and checked in with our dog Yoda, and were given the cutest little doggie goodie bag for him. The people at the hotel are so kind and went out of their way to make our stay special. Our room was simple but chic with a comfortable king sized bed and a bright and airy bathroom (loved the rain shower).

We visited Plat 99 Mixology Lounge for cocktails and a cheese board and absolutely loved the ambiance. The complimentary truffle popcorn was to die for! I love the fact the hotel has complimentary bikes available for guests (as Indy is such a bikeable city). For dinner we went to Mesh on Mass Ave which was fabulous as always. In the morning we ordered room service which was delivered promptly and professionally. All in all it was a great getaway and I look forward to being able to visit The Alexander again!

mollyms619,

Sounds like a great night on the town! What a nice surprise. Thank you for choosing The Alexander for such a special occasion. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the ambiance and were able to really check out some of the great artwork we have throughout the property. The Paul Villinski piece is one of my personal favorites. Hopefully Yoda enjoyed his goodie bag as well! We certainly look forward to serving you again in the future.

Stayed here because it was close to Lucas Oil Stadium for the DCI 2104 World Championships. I had some trouble with early check-in which started the trip off only so-so, but the facilities and staff are great.

I didn't get a chance to have a meal there but I've heard the Cerulean is fantastic. The staff is overall friendly but I had to call up 3 times to get extra soap and shampoo. Also, housecleaning accidentally came in when we were there but it wasn't their fault as someone had apparently stolen our "Not now" placard from our door.

The gym is kept cool and clean and is pretty decent for a hotel of this size. The lobby always has fruit essence water and snacks. The bar is nice and friendly and has popcorn with truffle salt at night.

The location is a bit weird as it's about 6 blocks from downtown, but definitely walkable and great if you're going to a Pacers or Colts game.

Modern, comfortable, filled with art along with all the amenities to make for a first class stay. Hotel is on the southeast corner of downtown, in a more industrial area that is being renovated. Rooms are spacious, bed firm but very comfortable, piles of down pillows, huge flat-screen TV with HD channels, modern, tasteful furnishings, lights on dimmers, super-modern bathroom with glass-walled, tiled shower. Nice touches like art in all the common areas, every day hot-weather refreshments in the lobby like fruit juice. The staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating. Everyone from the front desk to housekeeping staff greeted me each time I walked by and asked how I was enjoying my stay. Outstanding property, completely enjoyable, highly recommended.
