“Concierge dropped the ball”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2011

It was my mom & dad's 51st Wedding Anniversary and I wanted it to be special for them so I booked them a long weekend at the JW Indy. I booked a couples massage for them over a month in advance as well as flowers to be delivered to their room. I called only a few days prior to their arrival to confirm that everything was taken care of and they assured me of that. When my parents arrived there were no flowers in their room and the next day there was no massage for them. When I asked the concierge they said they had no records of any of this. However, I was promptly called by the hotel general manager and concierge manager who quickly made things right by cutting our rate and dropping our hotel cost and offering to personally go out and get roses and bring them for my parents and even delivered fruit and cheese plate to our rooms and assuring there would be massage reservation for the next day. They did everything they could to remedy the situation. We really felt taken care of.
The price might seem a little high but for such nice facilities and breakfast and all day snacks and drinks provided it makes it a very good value for what you get. The gym is as good as most stand alone gyms. There's a really good social life in the lobby as well and nice restaurant.

We stayed at the Indianapolis JW Marriott over Memorial Day weekend for the Indianapolis 500. It is a brand-new hotel, built for the 2012 Super Bowl (which BETTER HAPPEN). If the lady at the front desk had not told us that it was the first time that they were sold out, I would not have known. We were promptly greeted upon arrival and escorted to the check-in desk. As elite Marriott customers, we were automatically upgraded to an executive suite at no additional charge. The executive suite is a two-room suite with a living room and bar area, as well as a well-designed desk area, and two bathrooms. The suite was immaculate, bed was turned down, and room service arrived at the appointed time. Perfect service!

We loved this hotel and will definitely go back the next time we are in Indy. The staff was more than helpful and the service was over the top. I visited the Tavern on the Plaza for a quick lunch; it was beautiful, and, again, the service was spectacular! One word of caution: there are a few websites that say this hotel has an outdoor pool. It does NOT; only an indoor pool is at the hotel.
Our room looked out over Lucas Oil Stadium--the floor to ceiling windows were a great asset to the view!
The bathroom was spotless. The shower was a walk-in with many jets; it was wonderful!
Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Indy!!

OK, I've been disappointed recently in a number of hotels that claim to be first-class (are you listening, Westin Tampa Harbour?) but this hotel really, really reminded me of Great American hotels.

Excellent, attentive service by LOTS of people. Great part of revitalized Indy. The hotel is positively charged with positive energy (it is apparently THE place to meet and greet in Indy these days). Tasteful rooms (not large, but not tiny) with outstanding views of the city. The food may be forget all the bad meals I've had recently. I had roasted chicken, something I don't eat a lot of on the road but eat at home, and it was THE best roasted chicken I've ever had.

Negatives? Food is pricey, as you might expect. Internet access isn't world class, just OK. Rooms are on the smallish-size. But that is IT. This is the ONLY hotel I want to stay in, in Indy.

The JW is brand new, having opened in 2011. Overall, the whole hotel just works nicely. Check in was easy, they walked me to the elevator (no idea why), the lobby is great with a nice bar off to the side, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel is just very pleasant and relaxing. The room I was in seemed typical (judging from the floor layout on the back of the door), super comfy beds, big flat panel TV, good lighting, and the bathroom was nice - not huge, but good sized. As noted in other reviews, it is odd how the bathroom door opens into the bathroom - it blocks the tub, and opens on the toilet. OK, that is fine, but personally if I designed it I'd open the door on the tub and not the toilet. But hey, we all have our preferences, eh? The hotel is basically on an urban trail, so you can do up to a 5-mile run out the door of the hotel (ask for a map), and it's next to the AAA ballpark (across the street). Parking is expensive, so look into options if driving (I was not), and as all higher end hotels seem to do, they charge for internet in the rooms (any why is it the cheaper hotels often don't?). In sum, it's a great business hotel in the center of Indy...certainly not a resort at all, but if you are in Indy looking for a resort you're in the wrong place.

Room Tip: Get a high room facing the capitol - beautiful!

It was clean. Staff was very nice. Surprised when ice bucket and extra glasses were not removed by housekeeping...for several days.
