This is the renovated Canterbury so the basis for the hotel is retro small rooms. Our bellman told us nearly all the rooms were enlarged in the renovation. Bathrooms have been enlarged, have good fixtures, are bright, and are roomy. Our room was two bodies only while our guests had a larger room with a sofa that made conversation much easier than the usual bed as a chair. TV large and HD, wifi ok. There are no great views here as it is in the core of downtown
On checkout only one elevator worked in a two elevator structure, valet took over 30 minutes to get our car. We had purchased some of the stay through a charity event and it tool a week to get the charges to my card instead of the donor of the rooms. They really need a bit more space and staff to handle in and out. In comparison the Conrad offers much more service at the same price.
The common are on the first floor is ok. The upside is the location in the inner corner of the SW quadrant of downtown so you walk to all restaurants, bars, shopping, as well as Banker's Life and Lucas. It is a 5-10 min walk to the north end of Mass Ave
The new bar has a great beer and cocktail selection at Chicago prices, and has a nice feel to it. May old school cocktails and Zombie Dust was on tap during our stay ($10 fro 10 oz)
As with a lot of older layouts, the service, common areas, and bar/restaurant make the difference compared to a lower end hotel
