On April 4, 2007, four of us decided to dine at Carnegie’s in Greenfield to see what it was like as none of us had ever been there before.

I was accompanied by one of my brothers, his 16 year-old son, and a friend who is an attorney I work with in Indianapolis (whom I also consider to be a real “Foodie”). We considered this more of a ‘tasting’ dinner and freely shared samples with each other to taste everything. The meal came with a wonderful basket of different types of herb bread and oil to start with.

We had the soup of the day (a pasta and sausage combo) and the roasted red bell pepper soup. We all loved the bell pepper soup. My nephew thought it tasted a little like cheese soup – very rich, creamy, and excellent. Salads came with our entrees and they were ‘artfully’ designed to almost look like a small plant standing up on the plate with a cucumber slice wrapped around the bottom to secure it. We had to laugh at ourselves while we figured out how to eat it – it was very tasty though! For entrees, we had the seafood pasta (with lobster!), chicken, a peppered steak, and the beef medallions. All were delicious and the beef medallions were fabulous! I agreed with my friend that they were one of the best meat dishes we had ever had.

We all shared several of the deserts and they were quite good. The “Foodie” friend said it was the best creme brulee she had ever tasted. She was also very impressed that the restaurant is in a Carnegie library. The actual restaurant is actually on the bottom floor of the library building with the upstairs serving as the banquet facility. The meal prices were a little high for this area, but not out of line for the quality of the food and comparable to similar restaurants in the Indianapolis area.

The Sous-Chef came around the dining room to check on everyone and it was certainly a pleasure to meet her. As my friend indicated, if our meal was prepared by the Sous-Chef, we just can’t imagine it getting much better! Both she and our waitress were very nice. We were informed the Chef was out of town. The service was a little slow, but we were not in a hurry and enjoyed taking our time with the meal. Our waitress did take us upstairs to look at the banquet room and allowed us to look around at our leisure at the restored library building.

“Carnegie's is the Best”

Carnegie's is a welcome oasis of culinary treats. Just 2 miles from the interstate, this restaurant is unique. The Chef (Ian Harrison) has an herb garden behind the building. He has built a wood fired bread oven in the garden. They make wonderful breads there. The menu has beef, chicken, seafood, salads, home made desserts. Everything is awesome. Don't miss it when travelling through Greenfield.

“Inspiring atmosphere, wonderful food!”

Ian has transformed an old library into an inviting romantic atmosphere complete with white tablecloths and soothing ambience. The food has a definite Italian origin, although the menu is not confined to only Italian food. The night we dined there he had fresh swordfish flown in that day! My husband stated it was superb, and we are from the gulf coast of Florida. I tried the filet which melted in my mouth. The wait staff anticipated all of our needs and were so attentive. Personally, I feel Carnegie's could compete with all of our South Tampa bistros and come out on top. Go to Greefield and try it...truly an exceptional restaurant. Ian Harrison, the chef, will personally come out to meet you as well--just to make sure you are enjoying your meal. And don't be surprised if you are greeted by his beautiful girlfriend, Jody, who is more than willing to show you all the renovations of the old library.
