“Great seafood, comfortable seaside decor, efficient staff with lots of noise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

Our group of six couples had dinner at Paula's Seafood in March on a Wednesday evening. We all had wine and their seafood salad which was fresh, cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. the wait staff was very efficient and took care of our table with speed and grace even though the restaurant was very crowded and noisy...full of patrons. It obviously is a favourite dining place for quite a few people in Fort Wayne with lots of "regular". It was fun to be a part of the action. We were there long enough for the crowd to thin out and enjoyed decaf and desserts which are exceptional. Paula's on Main is a great date night place for couples or a fun place for large groups of friends. Ask for the Library table if it's a romantic dinner with your spouse or significant other...it's off to the side and fun to table watch other guests having a great time over dinner. Paula's is one of "those" restaurants where you ask the wait staff what just went by with a server because it looks so good you want to try it too!

“I hate fish but I loved it here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

I am not a seafood person but went because others in our group are. The almond crusted Walleye with the jalapeno sauce was amazing as was the Thai Tilapia. It was one of those meals where everyone was raving every time they took a bite. I can't wait to go back.

“Best Sea Food in Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

We eat at Paula's at least once a month. The fish selections are wonderful. We have never been disappointed with a meal there and have been going for years. The caesar salads are excellent. The sides are fresh and never disappoint. The homemade rolls and butter start the meal off right and it gets better from there. We have settled over the years on one server in particular whom we ask for by name all the time. If you go for a special occasion...ask for the Library table...you will not be disappointed.

“Just average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

Paula's On Main is known for its seafood, having an on-site fish market. The restaurant is comfortable, with ample seating staggered throughout two separate rooms, both with bars in them. It is considered a "casual/upscale" place; however, I thought it was somewhat tacky to have large flat screen televisions above both bars, in full view of all the dining room tables.

Our server was decent, definitely not outstanding. She either brought my husband someone else's meal, or the cook made the wrong entree. We realized after leaving the restaurant that his meal of lake perch did not have the correct preparation or side dish which was detailed on the menu. Not a big deal, but his fish was lukewarm on one half and steaming hot on the other, very underseasoned, and generally boring. I had the sea bass, which was slightly undercooked, also lukewarm, and very underwhelming. Our appetizers were good, and we had a very nice bottle of wine. The total meal came to approximately $117 with two apps, two entrees, and a bottle of wine. I felt that, for the price paid, the meal should have been great not just average.

One thing about the restaurant that really bothered me was that the dinners are prepared at the front of the restaurant, right in/near the "fish market". So this means the cooks (I did not see any particular "chef" who appeared to be in charge) set the prepared plates on top of the fish case for the waitstaff to pick up. There are a couple of heating/warming lamps shining down on the plates, and the case is filled with the raw seafood and ice. When we were leaving there was an overabundance of prepared meals just sitting on the counter right in full view of anyone who walks by or enters the front door. Someone could actually walk right up and put their fingers into someone food if they wanted to. I just felt that this was a very strange way of preparing and holding food for the waitstaff to deliver. It also seems to be somewhat unsanitary.

This was the second time we have eaten at Paula's, with the first being over 15 years ago. That meal was very tasty and enjoyable, then the place closed down for awhile, and we never made it back until last week. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I will give this place one more try, as it could have been an off night;; however, I have a strong suspicion that it is what it is.

“the market in the restaurant is exceptional”

Have only frequented the market in Paula's on Main. Very helpful and friendly staff in deciding seafood choices to purchase. Also their sauces are good and unique. The jalapeño tarter is their best seller.
