“Garbage Breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

This is a dish not a rating!! It's known by all downtown. Fun old style diner. Small so, you may have to wait. But, it is worth the time. All food prepared in front of you too.

“Back In Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

This is an authentic nostalgic foodie hang-out. A long row of stools lined up in front of a long counter, with lots of memorabilia to look at. It gets crowded at lunchtime but food is fresh and homemade, prices are good, and did I mention the home-made pie? Yum!

“Taking visitors to landmark restaurants?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Cindy's Diner is a MUST! With only 15 seats at their counter, you may have to wait a bit, but the food and the experience are worth it! I had the garbage with a side of raisin toast. So very delicious and I was full for about seven hours afterwards. An even better value when you use a Groupon or coupon from Ft. Wayne's Entertainment book.

“Serving the world: 15 at a time.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Cindy's Diner is in a building that old time diner enthusiasts will recognize as a 1952 Valentine. A classic stainless steel restaurant with an interior of less than 400 square feet, and according to original Valentine brochures, would have came from the factory in Kansas with only eight vinyl-topped stools along its L-shaped Formica counter. These narrow, prefabricated, easily moved structures could once be found in thousands of cities and towns across the country, before the advent of franchised fast-food restaurants. Cindy’s has been modified either at the factory or on location to now include fifteen vinyl-topped stools. That is where the diner's slogan, printed on a sign that hangs from the ceiling, must have originated: "We serve the Whole World … 15 at a time." There are two picnic tables outside on the sidewalk that does give the diner a few more seats. If you choose to sit outside, you go inside to order and tell the server that you want your order to go and they will put everything in Styrofoam for you. If you sit inside, you get a glass of water, real coke glasses and get to eat off the good plates.

The 1952 Valentine came equipped with everything that the new owner would need to run a fully operational diner. Most everything is stainless steel, chrome, and porcelain, and the retro atmosphere is bolstered by the jukebox consoles full of '50s and '60s tunes that are spaced along the counter. The equipment is shiny stainless steel and is set up for two employees; a grill cook and a waitress. Cindy’s has a grill cook and two waitresses, and does a very brisk business. There are always customers at the counter, perched elbow to elbow, reading parts of the newspaper or just talking to each other. The place is so small and friendly, that any conversation you have is shared with everyone in the place, it's next to impossible not to eavesdrop on nearby conversations, and people don't hesitate to jump right in.

Not only is Cindy’s Diner friendly it offers good food. The lunch menu includes sandwiches which come with chips and a pickle like a hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, turkey burger, chicken burger, garden burger, grilled cheese, breaded or grilled pork tenderloin, grilled hot dogs, fried bologna and cheese on your choice of bread, tuna salad, chicken salad, and a reuben. You can have any sandwich made deluxe or a platter. Cindy’s also offers a nice selection of pie

The house specialty is the garbage plate which is a big pile of eggs, potatoes, ham, cheese, and onions all raked together on the grill, then shoveled onto a plate. Ham and cheese omelets are made to order and you can add onion, peppers, mushrooms, or tomatoes. Biscuits with sausage gravy, a stack of hot cakes with bacon, ham or sausage, corned beef hash and eggs, or the breakfast special of two eggs, American fries, bacon, ham, or sausage, and your choice of toast is served all day.

Keep in mind that Cindy's hours are rather limited (6 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays) and that neither credit cards nor checks are accepted, cash only.

“Old-school diner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Amazing donuts! It's a very cute little place; maybe 15 stools total. It's worth the wait if you go at a busy time, or get there at 10am and you should be fine.
