“Treat Your Family to a Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2009

The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is a terrific place for the whole fam damily. It is large, sprawling, has many excellent exhibits and is a very good value. It is about a half-day's commitment, unless you look at every little thing, in which you should allow a most of a day. They have many things for both kids and adults to do. (As I write this, I had chosen an "above average" rating and my 7 year-old son looked over my shoulder and insisted I change the rating to "excellent"). They have a lot of animals, many of which are pretty unusual. You can take pretty long hikes through the woods and see animal exhibits along the way. The Indonesian rain forest exhibit is especially cool.

Sadly, some of the things to do cost extra, such as a train ride and gondola ride. However, it's a fairly nominal sum but it can add up for the whole family to do. The other downside, which has improved over the past couple of years, is the paucity of places to eat. Upside, they don't hit you up for parking. There is plenty of it and it's free.

I've never been completely sure why it's a "children's zoo" other than a few things specifically geared toward kids. It utterly outclasses the shameless swindle of the Indianapolis Zoo. Even if you aren't close to Ft Wayne, it's worth the drive if you're anywhere within striking distance. Highly recommend. Hope this helps.

“Fort Wayne Zoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2008

We have been to the the FW Zoo many, many times, as FW is a destination for us with parents/grandparents living there (in Fort Wayne, that is...not the zoo!) Every time we go there the zoo has expanded or added animals and/or features and if your grandparents have annual passes, then the entire family goes for free! With very little else to do in this small midwestern town, the zoo offers a quiet, clean place to take the whole family that's very enjoyable.

“Not just for kids! We love it too!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2008

You don't have to BE a child or even HAVE a child to love the FW Children's Zoo. We visit each summer and see teenagers on dates, young couples, clubs groups, and senior citizens all enjoying the beautiful zoo.

Okay...you might be too big to ride the ponies...but you CAN ride the gorgeous carousel of endangered species and the sky tram. The train is a preeeeeetty tight squeeze for a tall adult but it l offers an interesting ride through the park. And we always go on the river canoe just to cool off.

They are still building the African Veldt so there's not much to see in it yet. We always walk through the Rainforest and the main zoo section. We usually skip the farm animal petting area, but you might get a kick out of the cute goats and calves.

This IS Indiana -- it gets HOT HOT HOT in the summer. So be prepared for the heat. There are some concessions but they're usually very crowded. There are also no picnic areas in the zoo, but it's pretty easy to find a bench or grassy spot to sit. The gift shop is pretty typical.

If you google their website, you can find out what special shows they are having that day (a zoo keeper brings out a small critter that you can see up close and touch). And sometimes they have discount tickets.

Honestly -- you will be amazed to find such a great zoo in the middle of Indiana!

“The zoo is not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2005

There are many things to do in Fort Wayne, but if your time is limited, make t the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo a must do. ---- It is clean, well maintained, with an African Veldt, Australian Adventure, Indonesian Rainforest and much more of interest. When travelling to Fort Wayne, my hometown, I make sure to visit the zoo. A children's zoo for children of all ages. 3411 Sherman Blvd., Fort Wayne, Indiana 46808 phone----
