Conner Prairie is a large, living history museum located just a few minutes north-east of Indianapolis, and was an excellent opportunity for us English folk to learn some of the pioneer American history. It seems that there are always exciting activities at this working settlement village, set in the 1800s - settlers, fur traders, a blacksmith, Indians and farmers with actors of all ages dressed in costume of the time and all answering questions whilst performing the everyday working activities. Candles, meals, everything they needed is made, cooked here, all so interesting. They were preparing for a wedding whilst we were there.
We found details of Conner Prairie whilst searching the internet, but feel there should be more advertising for this 'hidden gem' in Indiana's crown. There were school trips there but plenty of space for everyone and the children can run around and let off steam as much as they wish. We are in our 60s and had a thoroughly enjoyable day, nice restaurant for lunch too and everyone is so friendly, nothing was too much trouble.
We will never forget the lovely time we had at Conner Prairie and hope lots of other people will do the same - don't miss it!
