This is a Large, Living, Early Settlement Village located just a few minutes north of Indianapolis, and is one of the uniquely Indiana Stops. It doesn't matter what time of the year you are visiting there are always exciting activities. As a working settlement village, set in the 1800s, you can come and explore. Settlers, Fur Traders, Blacksmiths, Indians, Farmers, and even the Women folk and children are all answering questions and performing the everyday working activities, just as they would in an 1800 settlement village. Go ahead ask them about an IPod, or a Laptop, they will tell you about the recent PeaPod crop of if you are looking for a good laptop, Uncle Thomas is the tallest so he would have the best lap to sit on, but beware of his boney knees. Every candle, every meal, every animal is made, cooked, and cared for just as they would have been, no substitutions here.
It’s October, so tonight they have the Headless Horseman. It’s a "frightfully fun evening on the prairie! Enjoy haunted hayrides, games, crafts, storytelling, fall treats and more. Be on the lookout for the Headless Horseman...he is sure to make an appearance!"
My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE is the HEARTHSIDE SUPPERS which are held at the Old Conner House Jan-March. You will arrive and be involved in the preparation of a 19th century meal. Maybe you'll make the churn the butter, or tend the meat, whatever you do it is so exciting to participate, and ultimately sit with others who have prepared this fine 19th century dinner.
Have a free weekend; want a unique family friendly activity… Conner Prairie should be your first choice! Chances are your child has already fallen in love with this wonderful place; many schools take advantage of this outdoor living museum, as a field-trip. But don’t worry it is just as endearing and fascinating to me know in my 30s as it was when I was in elementary school.
Don’t visit Indianapolis or have guests come to this area with out planning a day or evening trip to Conner Prairie, they will never forget the time they spent there!
