My husband and I have made it our mission to poke cooperate America in the eye by trying locally owned establishments when we get a chance. Today we went the North side of Evansville (McCutchanville??) to the well known Hornet's Nest. The entry to the place was old and in need of renovation (i.e. kinda smelly), but we know better than to judge a book by its cover and seated ourselves. The place was mostly full with the usual lunch time crowd. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and told us about the specials and what was good. Mark had the goulash special and I had the beef Manhattan. Both were very good and we also enjoyed a piece of jalapeño cornbread. The food was very "homey" and just what we expected. The pecan pie a la mode was great too. We will return and next time bring the whole family.
