This hotel used to be a Hollidome but was changed to a Clarion this past March. We had never stayed at it before and the main reasons we picked it was because of the price and the pictures we saw and the reviews, which were mixed that we read on TripAdvisors. We were pleasantly surprised. There are two parts to this hotel. The new 7 story part which has interior halls and the older two story part which has outside access to each room. We stayed on the 5th floor of the 7 story part. The room we stayed in was clean and relatively quiet. We asked for and got a room away from stairs, elevators, vending and ice machines. The ice machine on our floor was pretty noisy so I felt bad for the people with rooms that we close to the ice machine. The air conditioner/heater worked well and was not excessively noisy. Although the hotel is older, it is very well maintained, at least the public areas and the 7 story part. I can't comment on the older 2 story part. First of all, the staff were all very good to excellent. Very friendly and helpful. We were especially impressed with two servers in particular in the restaurant, Joewin (spelling?) and Melissa, especially Melissa. She's a sweetheart. Even the gentlemen that was carving the prime rib for the Saturdy night buffet, was excellent. He noticed that I forgot to pick up a soup spoon for my soup and came over to our table with a soup spoon. Speaking of the prime rib. It was actually a very good cut with minimal fat. The only downside was that it was all medium. I was hoping for a piece that was medium rare. The breakfast buffet was pretty good also. Especially the Sunday breakfast buffet which included an omlett station. The young gentlemen that was making the omletts made an excellent omlett for me. As others have said, the pool area was very nice even though we didn't use it. The restaurant and the bar are very nice and the bartender, Cathy, was excellent also. I was impressed by the amount and quality of stained glass an beveled glass in the restaurant and bar area. In my opinion, whatever the hotel lacks in newness is more than made up by the staff. We've stayed at the Indigo which is more expensive and I think we'd probably choose the Clarion over the Indigo because the Clarion has more and nicer amenities and is less expensive. The fitness center at the Clarion, although small has relatively new and well maintained equipment. There are laundry facililities too if you have cloths to wash. The one advantage that the Indigo has over the Clarion is its location. You are able to walk to the restaurants and bars in the old downtown area of Columbus if you stay at the Indigo. You'll need to drive a little more than a mile to them if you stay at the Clarion.
Ask for a room in the 7 story newer part. They may be a little more expensive than the rooms in the...
