“Weekend Getaway”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Being a travel agent for over 18 years and staying at different Marriott properties, this one was disappointing. I had reserved one of my certificates at your hotel after hiking and biking in Brown County. Our ten year old boys wanted to go swimming and we were looking forward to the whirlpool. When checking in the gals at front desk were courteous and provided a quick check-in. We were on the third floor and knowing that this is a non-smoking hotel for awhile, that you could smell cigarette smoke in the hallway. However, the disappointing part came when we went down to the pool and the pool water was cold, and noticed the "whirlpool" was horribly cemented over. Which was rough when walking barefoot over it. The door to the pool chemicals was also opened with no staff in the area or in the room, for it to even be opened, which husband went over and closed. Then after not being able to relax in a whirlpool which your hotel still has listed as part of amenities, we got everyone settled, to get into bed and find it noisy and uncomfortable. Staying at many Marriott properties, I have never had a problem with the beds being lumpy and a bad mattress, but at this location/room did not provide a good night sleep. We also did not have any shampoo's,soaps, lotions, or bath soap in our room and had to request it from front desk. As well, went to vending area to get soda pop, and was surprised not to see a vending maching, but only an ice machine. So walked down to second floor to see if they had one, but ended up going to front desk and purchasing one from the snack market. I will say I was impressed with how courteous and nice the staff was, but otherwise don't think I would refer this hotel to my clients until some updates have been done.

I want to thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your experience at our hotel. I wanted to let you know that your experience here is not a common experience. We did recently remove the hot tub. If you would give me a call and let me know what room you where in. I would appreciate it as it will give me the opportunity to work with maintenance and housekeeping to ensure these rooms are returned to the smoke free environment we are looking for and the mattresses can be looked at. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you again for your feedback.

Sincerely,
Daniel Zeller

From the outside the hotel did not look nice but inside it was very nice. So don't judge the hotel from the outside. Hotel was not that far from the Bloomington Campus and had a nice selection of restaurants across the street from the hotel.

The Fairfield in Bloomington is a nice hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the common areas are inviting as well. Free breakfast is good with make-your-own waffles and an assortment of other quick breakfast items like sandwiches, cereal, fruit and juice.
Staff is very nice and friendly.
Location is convenient to many restaurants and shopping, some within walking distance and many others just a short drive away.
Small indoor pool is available, but not heated very well.
Overall, would recommend for a quick and comfortable stay.

The staff here really couldn't be better ... not only were they super welcoming upon arrival, they called once I'd been in the room a while to be sure all was OK, were helpful when approached with questions and provided an efficient check-in/out process. The rooms, as expected at a Fairfield, are basic but clean with some modern touches. What wasn't so hot was that I could hear the TV next door and voices in the hallway and the property was pretty full ... so lots of noise traveling around. Add to that I was on the first floor, which often heightens the noise factor (and definitely did here). Perhaps a room at the end of a hallway would help with this issue. There is some ongoing construction although it had very little impact on my overall opinion (basically the exits on each end of the building are closed/being redone). Otherwise, location of the property is convenient - just off the highway, easy enough access to downtown and the IU campus and some nearby dining/retail options (mostly chains, but some variety at least). And, of course, the price at Fairfields is typically nice ... just bring some earplugs if you're staying at this one!

The hotel was under renovation while we were there so there was some mess but it was understandable. The only problem we had was finding the entrance because of the construction, and the sign was a bit small plus it was dark out so it was understandable. Over all very nice visit.

This Fairfield is located close to restaurants and shopping, many within walking distance. The staff was friendly and attentive, they spoke to us everytime we came or went. The breakfast was very good with lots of choices. The only problem was that they are undergoing renovations, including the pool area. Besides this great stay! We stayed Dec 14th, 2012while in town for IU graduation. My kids loved the cookies, they kept sneaking back for more.

My experience with the staff was exceptional. I mean the whole staff was so helpful and friendly. The location was very convenient. The breakfast was great with a lot of choices. The chocolate chip cookies were yummy. I will certainly stay here again.
