“Great hotel, very friendly, would stay here again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2011

Good hotel, one of the last hotels to still have rooms available during IU's graduation weekend, but I glad everything else was sold out because this hotel worked out well even though it was about a 5 min drive downtown. The price was also reasonable. I would stay here again.

Very pleasant overall, clean rooms, lobby, pool area and reception. The hotel is away from the main road, so it is quiet, but right there. Bed very comfortable and linens and bath towels, a crisp clean white. A good variety of everything for breakfast and very good, though I personally didn't like the coffee. A detail that I notice is the tv volume in the breakfast room. It was just right, with the few tables near, able to hear and that's it. It wasn't blaring for everyone to listen, which is a turn off when eating. All staff we encountered were friendly, with the check-in reception clerk very helpful in suggesting dining options, both within walking distance and further. Would definitely recommend.

clean, quiet with attentive staff. Have stayed at plenty of mid-level places while traveling and this is one of the best in its class. Highly recommend. Only issue is the humming of the AC as it kicks on and off during the night.

My daughter just graduated from IU and we have stayed at this Fairfield numerous times in the past 4 years. We have never been disappointed. This is a mid value hotel that feels like a 5 star Marriott.

Great staff, very clean and very comfortable rooms. The breakfast has plenty of choices. Don't bother to try anywhere else in Bloomington-this is the best there is.

After booking almost a year in advance, for a 3 night minimum for graduation at IU, the weekend finally arrived and our stay at the Fairfield Inn Bloomington went without a hitch. Most notably is the wonderful staff, everyone was friendly, helpful and tending to any requests or questions. The room was clean and nothing fancy but we were only in the room to sleep. The continental breakfast was fine and the staff were attentive to everything, refilling what was empty and even offering donuts from table to table. These ladies were very welcoming and friendly offering congrats for the graduation. Our experience was positive and I would not hesitate booking the room again.

Location was easy to find off of the state highway around Bloomington. There was a lot of construction going on on the road attached to the hotel drive way, but that didn't affect our finding the hotel. Hotel is on the opposite side of town from the downtown/University area, but in reality, that's just a few miles and it takes little more than a few mintes to get where you're going. Checked in late afternoon on a Thursday. Lobby was very clean. We noticed right away that the indoor pool and jacuzzi was attached to the lobby in a glassed off area. Curtains half way drawn for a little bit of privacy while swimming. Young lady at the desk was very friendly and check in on pre-paid (Priceline) room went very well. We were given our choice of floor, and I mentioned that our only preference was a king size bed. She looked it up and we got it. Third floor. Elevator was fine, only a little slow, but we weren't in a hurry.

I believe the hotel has been updated recently. The carpet, furniture, bedding, and drapes looked modern and new. I am a little picky about where I sleep, and this place didn't bother me at all. At least in terms of cleanliness. I've read reviews that said the beds are "so comfy!" but in my opinion (and that's all it is) is that they were a little too hard for my taste. The pillows were fine, soft down (or some mix of down and fiber fill), and sheets were soft, but the mattress was just plain hard. Again, that all goes to personal preference. Some people may love it. I didn't.

We came and went a lot, and didn't spend too much time in the hotel. The cleaning staff was always available to give us more towels or toiletries, but we never asked them to make up the bed. The one day we came back to the hotel for a nap, they knocked on the door and we said "just a minute." They called to ask us if we'd like housekeeping, instead of knocking again. They were very apologetic and nice about having woken us up. But it was the middle of the day, so..

The internet was free and offered good speed. You didn't need a password. Our room also offered a mini-fridge and a microwave. The room was medium sized, but comfortable.

Breakfast buffet was good (and free!). It opened at 6:00 am every morning and offered make your own waffles with fruit, cereal, fruits, muffins, bagels, juice, and a variety of microwavable breakfast items like burritos and biscuits (similar to what you'd find in a gas station.) I'd stick with the waffles and fruit :) The morning we left, we got up very early and were checked out by 5:30 am. Staff was still setting up, but allowed us to sit down and have breakfast early. That was very nice of them.

Check out was very easy, since we'd prepaid. We just told them we were leaving and it was all good.

Oh, another fun little thing that Marriot hotels do is bake fresh chocolate chip cookies for guests. Several times when we were coming or going in the afternoon, the smell filled the lobby and elevator. The cookies were available at the front desk.

Over all, we enjoyed our stay. If we were in town again on a visit, we'd stay there again.

Clean, quiet and comfortable. A few things could use some attention: smaller furniture in the breakfast area, better lighting in room, sanitizing wipes and towels for exercise equipment. Otherwise , we had a very pleasant stay, and we will stay there again!
