We stayed at A Summerhouse Inn for three nights this past weekend. Traveling with a pet limited our choice of hotels. Pets at Summerhouse are allowed in a limited number of rooms. We did not book in advance because we wanted to personally check out hotels before making a final choice. Our trip included visits to Monroe Lake, Brown County State Park, and Nashville. We checked other hotels in the Brown County area and decided on Summerhouse because the desk clerk was so welcoming and gracious, allowing us to fully inspect the property and the room before making a decision.
This is a reasonably priced older motel. It does show some wear and tear but nothing that was unacceptable. The large shaded outside courtyard, with picnic tables, grills and a very clean pool was more important to us than the actual room. There is also a park with a children’s play area a very short walk from the hotel.
The room was a comfortable size. TV had expanded cable service. The shower had some of the hottest water I have ever found in any hotel or condo. As with most of the more inexpensive hotels, there was not an abundance of towels. I am sure there would have been no problem getting additional ones. For me, the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable but my husband said they were fine. Refrigerators & microwaves are available for a nominal fee per day.
All staff members we met were very courteous and friendly. A plumbing problem was quickly addressed, and while it necessitated two room changes, the bill was adjusted accordingly.
The full service kitchen area is small but you may use it to prepare your own food. Help yourself continental breakfast (available throughout the day), included doughnuts, cereal, juices, waffles, a variety of bagels and cream cheese toppings, mixed fruit, coffee, tea or hot chocolate. There is a small dinning area with projected wall cable TV/VCR/DVD, and a computer w/internet access in the front lobby area.
We were glad we chose A Summerhouse Inn and enjoyed our stay. We would stay there again.
