We stayed at A Summerhouse Inn for three nights this past weekend. Traveling with a pet limited our choice of hotels. Pets at Summerhouse are allowed in a limited number of rooms. We did not book in advance because we wanted to personally check out hotels before making a final choice. Our trip included visits to Monroe Lake, Brown County State Park, and Nashville. We checked other hotels in the Brown County area and decided on Summerhouse because the desk clerk was so welcoming and gracious, allowing us to fully inspect the property and the room before making a decision.

This is a reasonably priced older motel. It does show some wear and tear but nothing that was unacceptable. The large shaded outside courtyard, with picnic tables, grills and a very clean pool was more important to us than the actual room. There is also a park with a children’s play area a very short walk from the hotel.

The room was a comfortable size. TV had expanded cable service. The shower had some of the hottest water I have ever found in any hotel or condo. As with most of the more inexpensive hotels, there was not an abundance of towels. I am sure there would have been no problem getting additional ones. For me, the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable but my husband said they were fine. Refrigerators & microwaves are available for a nominal fee per day.

All staff members we met were very courteous and friendly. A plumbing problem was quickly addressed, and while it necessitated two room changes, the bill was adjusted accordingly.

The full service kitchen area is small but you may use it to prepare your own food. Help yourself continental breakfast (available throughout the day), included doughnuts, cereal, juices, waffles, a variety of bagels and cream cheese toppings, mixed fruit, coffee, tea or hot chocolate. There is a small dinning area with projected wall cable TV/VCR/DVD, and a computer w/internet access in the front lobby area.

We were glad we chose A Summerhouse Inn and enjoyed our stay. We would stay there again.

While my husband was a cancer patient at Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute (MPRI) we stayed at A Summerhouse Inn for 10 weeks. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. They gave us suggestions and directions to places to visit in the area. Everyone went out of the way to help us from the desk staff and housekeeping crew to John, the General Manager. This made our time away from home very memorable for us.
We appreciated our comfortable room, the very clean outdoor pool, the outdoor common area, the kitchen facility, the continental breakfast, microwave and refrigerator in the room, the Big Screen TV in the Breakfast room, washer and dryer availability, and the computer access in the lobby. The location was convenient to the grocery store, gas stations, restaurants, College Mall, Indiana University, Post Office and MPRI.
We highly recommend A Summerhouse Inn for a long term or short term stay.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this hotel since it had been a long time since I'd been to Bloomington and I didn't remember this property. We were so pleasantly surprised! The rooms were nice and clean and opened to a lovely courtyard and pool areas. The kids had a great time just playing outside and talking around the fire pit. I noticed there were a couple of baseball teams staying there at the same time and I admit I worried that it would be pretty noisy but I was amazed that it wasn't. I also assumed that the kitchen area would be very busy around breakfast time but it was such a great set-up that everyone made himself at home and got plenty of fresh donuts, bagels, fruit, etc. What a great idea! If all hotels were this family-friendly, we might go on vacation a lot more often!

Also, the employees at this hotel were so determined to make sure you had a good stay that they knocked themselves out for you. A member of the housekeeping staff noticed me out at the pool with the kids and brought extra pool towels for us without my even asking. Every employee asked if we were having a nice stay and whether we needed anything at every encounter. We will definitely visit A Summerhouse Inn again!

I was receiving treatments for my brain cancer at the Midwest Proton Radiotherepy Institute and my stay was to be at least 8 weeks. I contacted many places for availability and was treated hastily on the phone, but when I called Summer House Inn, the staff was very courteous and helpful and made me feel comfortable and confident to stay here for my long term stay. John, Mary and the staff here are very personable and courteous and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, the rooms are clean, the pool is well kept along with the grounds which has nice landscaping. If there is ever a problem, the staff is very quick to solve any problems and also knowledgeable about the area if you should need any services or looking for specific things to do in the area. The amenities of this quaint Inn are: the great offer for continental breakfast, which includes local doughnuts, cereal, juices, waffles, a variety of bagels and creamcheese toppings, french toast sticks, fresh mixed fruit, coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Also included is the morning local paper, a nice dinning area with projected wall cable TV/VCR/DVD, computer w/internet access in front lobby area, WiFi for most rooms, the kitchen area also includes a refridgerator and cookstove & microwave (in case you need to cook your favorite meal), refridgerators & microwaves are available for the rooms at a nominal fee per day. The outside court area also consists of nice (park-like) benches, picnic tables, propane grills, a firepit, (sunken boat) sandbox, and a well kept unusually shaped pool with both shallow end (for kids) and a deep end (for adults) and ample seating around the pool including lounge chairs for sunning oneself. At night time the place is well lit for great security and monitored by the staff. The next time that I need a place to stay in the area I will definately stay here again and would highly recommend to anyone. The total package is a great deal for a great price.

We had one overnight here and it was just ideal for what we wanted. A converted motel, it's been updated, has some nice personal touches, and the service was really helpful and personable.

The rooms are plain but fresh and very clean. The diy continental breakfast was of a pleasant quality and there was plenty of it. There is great free wireless broadband which was very helpful in our circumstances.

It's not a luxury or destination hotel, but we weren't looking for one of those - it's a fair room for a fair price with nice people and service - 'just the job'.

  • Liked — Service and cleanliness
  • Disliked — The rooms were a little plain and dark, and the sink was in the room, not the bathroom
