“In a Word? Magic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

In a word? Magic. Remember leaving camp as a kid and all you could think about was how many days until you got to return? That's how we felt pulling out of Clayoquot after our visit last week. Stayed in Tofino a couple more nights to wean ourselves from the beauty; plopped down in our Relais & Chateau hotel room, looked at each other and went, 'heh'. It just wasn't camp. Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is a world class destination, with world class cuisine and activities, yet relaxed and intimate. No picture could possibly capture its magnificence, nor the spirit of the place. The camaraderie that developed between guests and staff only added to the experience. Our time there was, by far, the best we've every had on vacation. If you've read the previous reviews, all of the details are covered, accommodations...we should all have outdoor showers, the sure-footed horses, the dogs filling in for our absent pets, the food, oh, the food, the competent guides and the wild beauty. We wish to send our heartfelt thanks to Chef Ryan Orr, Kaelhub, Tanja, Blair and Andy for the fabulous cuisine and hearty laughs, as well as for ensuring a most memorable birthday. Special thanks also go to Cheryl, Chuck and Dixon for their expertise and company while sharing some of the most beautiful enclaves on the planet and to Kathy, for her crackerjack organization, never missing a detail. Finally, we wish to thank Adele and John Caton for having the guts and vision to build their Field of Dreams. Yes, we will come and encourage all others to do the same. Time spent at Clayoquot is one of life's game-changers.

In 2 words, thank you!
I cannot express enough just how much this review means to us. Thank you so much for taking the time to let us, as well as potential guests, know just how wonderful your time was here. It goes without saying that we appreciate your review and that we look forward to your return but I feel like I should highlight just how awesome your time was here.
With September being a historically slower month for us, with all the kids are back in school, it is much quieter here and some people forget just how magical September can be! You had great weather mixed with awesome activities and a staff that was so happy to have you hear. Now we are like that all the time, but there is a special something about September and it was great to have you apart of that! Thank you so much for joining us during this wonderful time and truly, we look forward to seeing you and your partner again soon!

All the best,

Kathy

Simply the best holiday our family has ever had. Bar none.
Beautifully judged living under canvas but that's about the only resemblance to camping. Frontier-chic tents with stoves, antique furniture and blankets from Restoration Hardware ( I know...why do I look at things like that...). Our tent had one of the relatively new en-suite bathrooms and it's hard to beat the experience of an outdoor shower, amongst the steepling trees.
Wonderful food done with great style and pitched just right. Our kids ( 19 and 16 ) loved every minute of the week - urban kids are now crack shots, salmon fishers, riders. And they've got close to bald eagles, humpback whales, sea otters, not to mention the Clayoquot pack of resident dogs/bear intruder alert system.
Would go back in a flash, and intend to.

What an incredible vacation. Four star accommodations. All the outdoor activities we could hope for. And gourmet meals, complete with wine pairings from local wineries. Simply one of the best vacations we have ever taken. Even our teenage daughter rated Clayoquot her favorite vacation ever (ahead even of the Galapagos Islands, because, she said, in the Gslapagps she had to stay on a boat). We had such a good time, we were even able to ignore the rainy weather that we encountered for half of our stay. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Definitely spring for an en suite tent. Why have to go outside to use the facilities when you are pa...

My family visited last summer, and it was one of the most wonderful vacations we've ever had. This year, my son and I returned as a father/son trip, and it was just as extraordinary the second time.

It's a revelation to find such a pristine environment in 21st century. John and Adele are inspiring visionaries who have co-created something truly amazing. The staff is first rate and share a passion for the environment and for giving everyone there a fantastic experience. Some of the guides, such as Dave, have lived there for many generations and intimately know the area.

Highly recommended!

Dean Ornish, M.D.

Room Tip: The newer tents with bathrooms and outdoor showers are worth the extra cost.

Just returned from Long Weekend with family for a post Alaskan cruise adventure. From the moment we stepped out of the seaplane, I knew we were in a special place from the vast beauty and the warm reception of the entire staff! The accomodations, food, endless options of activities made this a memorable trip leaving each one of us (teenagers included) wanting to return soon for a longer visit. Don't be fooled by camping....the dining and "tent" accomodatoins rival any five star resort!!

Room Tip: Get an tent with bath ensuite.....the floor is heated and the outdoor private showe is a novelty!!

My first time 'visiting' Clayoquot Wilderness Resort was about nine years ago. I was staying at another of their properties at the time. I loved what I saw at CWR, but because I wasn't a horse person and had already slept in tents as a child, I did not think I would enjoy the experience to the fullest. Fast forward to three years ago --- my travel agent recommended CWR as a first stay on an around the world trip I was taking my 6 year old and his teacher on. She was not aware that I had visited the property already, but when she suggested it, I remembered how wonderful the people were and decided to give the experience a try. We had an amazing time and there was something for everyone to do and enjoy. Then, two years ago, I came with my brother and his wife and this year I just returned from a trip there with my niece. I just can't get enough of the CWR people and experience. From the beautiful and luxurious atmosphere with five star service, superior food preparation and service with special wine parings and an open bar with high end beverages, spa with the most relaxing massages and facials, horses, wildside adventures (including bears, whales, eagles and sea otters), rock climbing, zip-lining, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, skeet shooting, archery activities and on and on. Pick and choose all or none and just chill by the fire with a great book or get some work done on your laptop. Yes, they do have WiFi in the wilderness. I have been to over 55+ countries around the world and stayed at many, many hotels/resorts. The only thing I regret about going to Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is leaving there.
