“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Got here after a few weeks in Thailand to wind down and chill out and luckily picked the perfect place. The facilities and the rooms are amazing and even better, the staff made it feel like home. Owners Linda and Scotty were such good hosts, shared many stories with Linda over happy hour cocktails (which were the best I've ever had). Local staff managed by Mr. Phi were superb and helped with everything from travel to activities to food etc. I started missing Mui Ne and Shades as soon as I left and will definitely be going back in the future.

We chose to head to Mui Ne to wind down after a few weeks travelling about Thailand and Vietnam. Shades was an awesome choice! It was a great surprise to find some fellow New Zealanders running the resort, and they also turned out to be the most friendly and helpful hosts possible. Right from the get go Linda, Scotty and Mr. Phi made sure our stay in Mui Ne was as easy and enjoyable as possible. Our room was immaculate and had everything we needed and then some - such as a computer hooked up to a flat screen TV (!!). I'd gladly recommend a stay at Shades to any of my friends (or anyone else for that matter) planning on heading to that part of the world, and wouldn't hesitate to choose Shades again next time. Don't forget to enjoy some good company down by the pool at happy hour during your stay! Thanks again guys!! Cam from Wellington.

We spent one month in total in Vietnam and came to Mui Ne to relax for our last week before returning to Ireland.

Shades is a little gem of a place. A modern styled resort right on the waters edge, which has a fabulous pool area, where you can watch the kite surfers ride the waves as you sunbathe.

The poolside bar offers cold drinks and you can also order food from the local restaurants if you are too lazy to head out for lunch. We particularly enjoyed the Happy hour in the evening from 5 to 7 as this gave us a chance to catch up on the days events with the many friends that we made from all around the world during our stay in shades.

Breakfast was tasty each morning with a choice of eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, cereal, juices etc.

We stayed in no 10, the double studio....our room was spotless with a walk in shower, towels changed daily and sheets changed every 2nd day. The small touches like free laundry and mosquito repellant in your room just shows how much the owners and staff want to ensure you have the best stay possible.

That brings me onto the staff and owners....Mr Phi, Linda and Scotty where excellent hosts with a wealth of information and on hand to help with everything from local knowledge of restaurants to special homemade rice soup for a sick stomach. I can't say enough good things about them.

Thanks Linda, Scotty and Phi for making our stay special

Room Tip: Ground floor apartments have the black out windows...but just remember at night when you turn the li...

Intended staying 4 nights but ended up staying for 7. Rooms are spotless and the sea couldn't be closer. The swimming pool was wonderful and great to just relax and unwind. The Happy Hours at the bar were great fun and we met some wonderful people to share them with including our hosts Linda and the unforgettable Scotty. Spent time discussing with Linda our mutual love of Southampton as she was Hampshire born. Mr Phi and the rest of the staff were very helpful and always happy. Thanks again Linda and Scotty for making it a memorable stay and for taking us on the Linda tour to the market!

The local staff, lead by Phi are terrific. Even better, the owners, Linda and Scotty, become our new Vietnam friends. The room was beautiful, Mui Ne is terrific in general and the breakfast is lovely. For us, happy hour was a time to reunite with our other happy travellers, newly met at the hotel. Linda and Scotty were terrific and fun to get to know. Hopefully they will be in residence when you are there.

So for a lovely friendly beach vacation just go, it will be wonderful.

Had been to Mui Ne on two previous occassion with a group. Every time, I grin with envy, hoping for that one chance I would be able to spend a night or two at this gem of a place. We were very close to doing so the first time I was there back in June 2010 but decided against it due to budget constraints. Second time round, we were a big group of 11 so the Austrian Backpackers Hostel (now Mui Ne Backpackers) was where we called home.

Was greeted by this friendly Viet guy called Dat. Very professional and calm with a willing smile. He went through everything with us although his English was limited. Admired him for that. Did we mention that we got an upgrade for this? We booked room #11 but got room #5 instead. Complete with a jacuzzi! Nice!

Room was fantastically clean. Very much worth the USD$88 that we paid for it. All in all, spent 2 nights in this fabulous apartment. Woke up to the sea and the calming sounds of the waves. Breakfast was provided but I guess no one wakes up for it in sleepy Mui Ne. Lunch was always the first meal of the day. Don't really know why they bother putting that meal in with the price.

Overall, worth the stay. Worth the price. Worth bringing my muse all the way to Mui Ne to make my dream come true. Third time lucky if you'd ask me. Only for those who could afford it really. There are plenty of cheaper alternatives along the stretch. Somewhere to the tune of USD$10-25 if you look hard enough. Basically good for honeymooning couples, who wish for something a little extravagant but still does not leave a hole in your pocket. I had always wanted it so definitely worth the try.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms that have a seaview. They are rooms #11, #4 and #5. The higher you go, the higher t...

We stayed at the Shades Resort for 7 nights over New Year and absolutely loved the resort. It is boutique, and although mostly fully booked (as it should be, it is such a good place to stay), there are always plenty of sunbeds available and breakfast is served ocean side....never a crowd. Even Vegemite for us Aussies!! Staff is extremely friendly and helpful and happy hour is a must. The complimentary laundry service is great and Phi, the manager goes out of his way to please every one. We had room 1 and 2 on the ground floor, beautiful and so handy, 5 steps away from bar, pool and beach and all shops and restaurant directly out the front. I can recommend this resort to anyone, I stayed here with 3 boys aged 17, 24 and 25 and they thought it was the best place they ever stayed at (and they are well travelled!)

Room Tip: Room 1 and 2 are excellent and I presume they set the standard for all other rooms.
