After agreeing on a reasonable price the friendly staff showed us to our room on the second floor, over looking the manicured lawn and beautiful ocean views. On first inspection the rooms appeared to be clean and well kempt.
Our day was spend relaxing in the private garden in front of the beach, shaded by beautiful palms, well protected by the afternoon sea breeze.
Overjoyed by our little patch of Mui Ne heaven, my girlfriend and i retired for an early night, only to be woken hours latter covered in red bites all over one side of our bodies, the sides we were sleeping on.. We turned on the lights to check the contents of our room and mosquito net only to find no mosquitos.
After a sleepless night we approached reception for assistance, only to be quite rudely told we had obviously allowed mosquitos to enter the room at some point. Having professed our innocence we were handed a can of bug spray and the staff member walked away mid sentence.
On the second night the room was liberally sprayed before leaving for dinner. Apon returning we rechecked the room, zero mosquitos. Once again the both of us woke hours latter in a state of hysteria, being driven quite literally mad with the bug bites we had sustained up and down our bodies.
Once again our morning visit to reception was met with rudeness and arrogance, and a flat out denial of any assistance. After some research was made we connected the dots, Bed Bugs was the diagnosis. We calmly discussed our unhappiness with the room and kindly asked to be moved to another. This request was met with more rudeness and an emphatic display of single mindedness "room is good, room is clean, you no like, you not stay"
On the the third night whilst reading in bed, a black dot on the sheets was seen to move slowly. On closer inspection all signs once again lead to proof of Bed Bugs. At this point we returned to reception and demanded either a new room or we would leave that night. The team at reception met our request with not only rudeness but a display of hostility and aggression, telling us to get out as we were no longer welcome. Having done my best to defuse the situation i requested to pay the bill for the first two night, refusing to pay for the third night as i was going to have to move our belongings at 11pm to another guest house on the strip.
As no compromise could be made at this time, we decided to rough it on the beach for the night, competing with the likes of the sand crabs and sand flies till morning. It proved to be the best night sleep we at the Hiep Hoa Resort Mui Ne.
