“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

The only place to meet people in Mui Ne. I had to stay elsewhere and wait 3 days to get a room, but it was worth it. Great seafront location, loads of fun and group nights out. Has a pool to chill in the afternoons and well placed with dining on both sides. Big thanks to the management team and especially the night security guy who watched me roll in every sunrise.

It actually is though! No other backpackers places here so get in there quick. Sociable, lovely owners, helpful, clean. They organise an all-hostel dinner most nights so loads of you go out together - really nice. Right on the beach - although if you want a sun bed for the day you better get up early. There's not an awful lot else to do in Mui Ne so get here and chill out :) Definitelt recommended...

We spent 5 nights in the beachfront bungalow and loved it. We just wanted a week of relaxation and definitely got it. As soon as we arrived john and tom were really friendly and helpful. They gave us lots of advice on where to eat and drink and what to see. As it was out of season it was fairly quiet everywhere but they organised dinners together so we felt like there was a lot of atmosphere everywhere! We met some really great people while we were there and had a lot of fun. The bungalow we stayed in had a perfect location opposite the beach and the mini bar had very cheap beer! Thanks for making our stay really enjoyable! We want to be back there!

One tip...you could do with some more sun loungers. :-)

A goodplace to stay, we had the beach front bungalow which was ideal lovely views out of the front and space away from the rest of the site. We hired a motor bike form a friend of the owner. No complaints there- affordable and reliable, what more do you want.
The only down side was there was no breakfast included or available and there was no beach at high tide, we stayed at a hotel at the far end of the beach a couple of years ago and there was/ is a lovely beach there but you would not be as central to town.
We had breakfast next door at jibes ever morning – lovely pancakes- although at the end of our trip we were a little over pancakes!!! Also hired a stand up paddle board from them. A good price and good quality kit.

Room Tip: Go for the beach front bungalow or one of the top beach facing rooms.

We enjoyed our stay in Mui Ne and the Backpackers Resort, but we`re convinced they can improve on at least some points. Hereby some (free) advices hope you'll appreciate them:

1.) Welcoming your guests
If people walk into your lobby it would be nice if you start a conversation with "Hello, can I help you" instead of "DO YOU HAVE RESERVATION?????". Especially when people survived a 12 hour Vietnam bus-travel. A warm welcome will be appreciated next time!!

2.) Don`t expect every western looking person speaks English as good as you do
We (from Holland) do speak English but it`s not our mother language. So we appreciate it when people (especially people with mother language English) talk easy and avoid (Australian) accents. And if we don`t understand you directly, it`s NOT because we`re stupid, it`s because we don`t speak English that fluent! Keep this in mind, and have more patience with people like us next time!

3.) The beach bed issue
You have some beach beds, but deffinately not enough for everybody who is in the resort! So 1,5 day we didn`t had one so we had to move over to another place. That`s annoying! Besides that a lot of them have broken parts or doesn`t have pillows in it. Put some attention on the beds, it`s an essential part of your resort! Also the people who occupies the beach beds with their towels for hours should be removed from your resort immediately! ;)

4.) Breakfast
Offer some simple breakfast (e.g Bread with butter and jam). It`s annoying that you have to leave the resort first thing in morning to get your cup of coffee

5.) You offer a mini-bar, so you count!
At my check out, you asked me what I had from the mini bar last 5 days (daily refill). I don`t write that down you know. I get some when I get thirsty. I expect the hotel will do. So I suggest you to gather that information on yourself next time.

6.) The noise
Make some agreements with your neigbhours (Jibe`s and Joe`s) to cut the music at 00:00 (22:00 would be better). It`s simply not possible to sleep (when you`re sober) as longs as they `re open and the rooms have some `open` ventilation parts.

Hi Krooy,
Thank you for your review .... and yes, we do read them and take them seriously. When guests check in, we do greet them in a friendly and courteous manner. We meet people from all over the world so, yes, we try to be patient and understanding of language difficulties. I am disappointed that your experience was not up to our normal standard. My apologies. We have added more beach lounges, we now have 27 !!! Breakfast is in the planning stage so hopefully soon.We do count the mini bar drinks. We ask our guests if they had any more drinks on their last night. Each day the mini bars are checked for the amount of drinks taken. We are unable to control what happens on our neighbors property. Jibes are usually very quiet. We are continually asking Joe's to keep the music to an acceptable level. We are hopeful that the police will intervene in the future.Kind Regards, John and Staff

Maybe the good reviews of this place are a result of people being blinded by the mui ne sunshine. I found this place dirty, run down and badly staffed, and yes I am used to backpacker hotels and hostels!

Where to start...my towel was stolen from the room by the cleaners, despite lodging a complaint and chasing up the complaint they showed no concern and made no effort to retrieve my towel. The advertised swimming pool is little more then a bathtub sunk into the ground only meters away from the busy dusty road.

No hot water in the bathroom, which was so badly constructed that every time the shower was used the whole bathroom was flooded.

The room smelt of damp and mould and the air con barely worked.

I could go on but I think I'll leave it at that. Before you book to stay at this place think twice. The good price doesn't deliver value for money!!

I address every review and am flabbergasted by the false accusations contained in this review. Our property is constantly maintained. It is freshly painted each year, the air conditioners are replaced when they begin to give trouble. The housekeeping staff pick up towels that are left on the ground, your towel was also replaced. How you find it possible to accuse our staff of "stealing" a towel that belongs to the hotel anyway is ridiculous. Our price level is by far the least expensive on the beach. You are obviously bitter about something that happened during your stay. It would have been much more effective to raise any problems or concerns that you had during your stay.
Kind Regards,
John and Staff

I definitely wasn't that amazed by the hotel as many others. It was fine. Definitely clean and quite a good location. Just the service wasn't to my expectations... We came by night bus from Saigon at 1 am and yes, they have 24/7 reception, but the security guy that is the night receptionist doesn't speak a word in English and I can't say that the check-in would go smoothly...
Another disappointment came in the tommorrow morning when we came asking for some guidance and info about the area... They were not helpful at all! Just promoting their own tour which we really didn't want and they tried to discourage us from anything else with kind of sarcastic smile on their faces. Afterwards we happily managed by ourselves but it definitely wasn't a pleasant start.
Also the hotel is on the beachside, but doesn't have any beach thanks to the shore corrosion there.

Dear Aradhel,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review.I was very disappointed to read that our service was not up to your expectations. The night manager speaks English, German and Vietnamese so I was somewhat confused by your comments. In the morning when you came to reception you inquired about visiting the sand dunes. Our staff advised you that we organize trips to the sand dunes and warned you that the police had been stopping tourists on motorbikes. At that time they were fining people up to 500.000 vnd. It's great that you went there and didn't get fined !!! Our beach has plenty of sand at the present, occasionally we have king tides which diminishes the amount of sand between our sea wall and the ocean.
Kind Regards,
John and Staff
