“Great value, gorgeous pool area!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013 via mobile

We had a very pleasant stay at Mui Ne Hills 2 (13-15 Jan 2013). The staff is super friendly and owner Erik is very nice and attentive. They gave us loads of tips for Saigon and even booked our hotel for us. The pool area at Mui Ne Hills 3 (guests of Mui Ne Hills 2 can use all facilities of all properties) is tastefully decorated and has amazing panorama views (cannot be beaten by beach side resort) with really comfortable loungers and it is spotless clean. The staff even brought free fruit smoothies! Breakfast was really great (note: only includes one drink so choose wisely or pay a little bit extra).

We absolutely loved our room with sea view with a high ceiling and fan (no a/c) and we had fine reception on our tv and excellent wifi everywhere.

Note regarding location: Both our taxi drivers (from the airport and in town) refused to drive up the alley although cars may fit there properly so be prepared to walk up the hill with your luggage (we didn't mind, it's only a two minute walk).

Because we wanted to enjoy the real 'beach experience' during the last nights of our stay, we decided to move to another resort at the beach but if you're not willing to pay 2,5 times more, Mui Ne Hills is the best choice in town; it's a really (really) good option for people traveling on a budget but looking for more luxury than an average hotel.

Conclusion: For 25 dollars pp per night this is a great alternative to the more expensive resorts at the beach. Definitely recommended for its views and pool area, lovely (sea view) rooms and delicious breakfast! Perhaps Mui Ne 1 would be a better option when you want 'the whole package' within easy reach although guests of Mui Ne 2 can use all the facilities of 1 and 3. Warmly recommended!

If you don't mind walking a few meters up a hill, and not have your resort near the beach jt can't get better than this!

The rooms are basic, but comfortable, clean and very spacious. The pool area is a bit too small, but Mui Ne Hills has two other pool/relax areas which are superb!

Staff is very friendly, food is amazing, and having the excellent breakfast (with peanut butter & real cheese!) at the time you prefer near the pool is definately a big plus. Up the hills it is so relaxing, compared to the Neon filled strip near the beach.

I would definately recommend to stay here! It would be nice if they offer creditcard payments in the future.

Since I've also stayed in Mui Ne Hills 1, I can say that I prefer the rooms of no. 2 (a bit more modern, especially the bathrooms) but the atmosphere of no. 1.

We stayed overnight at Mui Ne Hills hotel 2 because the resort we were originally staying in (Seahorse Resort & Spa) was fully booked for our last night in Mui Ne. Having had a chance to compare this hotel to a hotel right on the beach I would definitely recommend going with the beachside resort option, especially if you are going to Mui Ne for a beach holiday. Kicking it by the pool just isn't the same. The difference in price is truly worth the difference, in my opinion.

The second thing I would say is to double-check which 'Mui Ne Hills' hotel you are staying in - there are several different properties on offer, adjacent to each other but they are not the same in standard.

Okay, so pros and cons -

Pros - The staff were very friendly and helpful. They spoke fine English and assisted us in organising to hire a motorbike for the day. The room was very clean and quite spacious (as we booked a quadruple room for 2 people, which had two double beds in it). The bathroom was also clean and very big. Aircon worked great and really cooled the room down. The breakfast was very good - fresh ingredients, eggs made to order and very well cooked. Breakfast is also availble all day, which was great.

A lot of our complaints were minor and didn't really bother us because we were only there overnight, however that would definitely have bothered me if I was making a holiday at this place so I will list them anyway - decor and fitout was lacking, especially by western standards; the tv didn't have very good reception and only a few channels worked properly; the bathroom had no amenity kit (so no toothbrush, razor, comb, cotton buds etc) - the soap on offer was a shampoo / soap 2-in-1 from a dispenser. The bathroom was also of the style where the shower has no cubicle. It is literally just a shower head at one end of the bathroom, with no sloping drain or anything. The result was that half the room got wet every time we used the shower and it was hard to drain the sand from the beach. There was no iron in the room. The was no free water, so you had to buy it from the minibar (20,000 dong each). Probably our biggest complaint was this - we did not realise when we booked (and didn't have a choice anyway because there was no accommodation available in Mui Ne) that there are in fact several separate buildings / hotels within the 'Mui Ne Hills' chain. We were in the worst of the lot (ours had no view and a small pool) and was very 'motel' style. However we did get to see the other two Mui Ne Hills hotels and they were quite a notch above - brilliant views over the hills and out to sea and lovely pools / lounge areas. Breakfast is held at both of these hotels. My advice - see if you can get one of these hotels instead of Mui Ne Hills 2! The only other thing to note is that if you stay in this resort as opposed to one right on the beach, you miss out on the umbrella huts / chairs on the beach that most of the other beachside resorts offer to all their guests for free. In fact, I'm not actually sure how you would go about accessing the beach if you stayed only at this hotel, as all the hotels along the beach reserve the areas for their guests....Also staying here, you have to hike up and down the hill to reach the hotel- taxis won't take you up there as they don't fit on the road! Very annoying if you have a lot of luggage. The area around the hotel was also pretty slummy looking (and with dangerously low powerlines) everywhere.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for having taken your valuable time to share your experience at Mui Ne Hills 2.

Comparing a 4 star hotel (Seahorse Resort) with a 2 star hotel (Mui Ne Hills 2) is never correct. The roomrate in the first one is 2,5 times more expensive then what we are charging.

Taxi's can easily drop our guests in front of the hotel and it is completely untrue that a car cannot drive up the road as we are doing it ourselves with our own car. All guests who arrive are being dropped off by their drivers in front of the hotel or being picked up from the hotel

All guests who stay with us enjoy of NOT having to be in accommodation right on the beach for the following reasons :

1/ our location is quiet, without the noise of overcrowded swimming pools and beach and buses waking up the guests in the middle of the night

2/ we have 3 swimming pools at very nearby locations ,allowing guests to find the place which they enjoy more. 2 swimming pools have amazing views over the ocean and abundant sunl oungers for our guests. 1 swimming pool is hidden away from the sun for those guests who prefer more shade

3/ we are located exactly 300 meters from the BEST part of the beach of Mui Ne, which is named Ham Tien. Down our hotel for 1 km to the right and 1 km to the left is the ONLY part of the beach which never disappears (in comparison to 8 other km of the beach which disappears every year for about 6 - 8 months). That's exactly why all the 3 / 4 and 5 star hotels are located exactly below us but are charging roomrates at least 2 upto 5 times higher then ours.

4/ The rooms which we offer are all brand new. Mui Ne Hills 1 opened in October 2010 and Mui Ne Hills 2 opened in November 2012.

5/ We also just opened Mui Ne Hills 3 which contains NO accommodation but stands at the full disposal of all guests of Mui Ne Hills and is located at 50 meters distance from where you were staying. We did serve you breakfast in this location and you were very happy spending your day in the swimming pool, on the loungechairs and in the large jacuzzi whilst overlooking the ocean and the palmtrees

6/ for those guests who stay with us and want to rent sun loungers on the beach, it is perfectly possible to rent them at low prices from the hotels located on the beach

7/ the beach is very easily accessible from our hotel and it takes maximum 5 - 10 minutes walk from your room to the beach.

8/ all the beach in Mui Ne is PUBLIC BEACH and hence accessible to everyone

The other comments which you were referring to can be replied shortly :

1/ no amenities in the bathroom : there is a clear sign that they will be provided free of charge upon request but we do not provide them standard in an attempt to contribute to a greener environment. Waisting plastic toothbrushes and soaps is exactly what we want to avoid.

2/ The 2 in 1 body and shampoo dispenser is of very high quality and is being refiled daily.

3/ The prices of all drinks which we provide in the minibar are very reasonable and are clearly printed outside the minibars, exactly as to inform our guests in advance

We do wish you a very pleasant onward journey throughout beautiful Viet Nam and thank you for having stayed with us !

Best regards

We arrived on a bus on the afternoon of 30th December to be greeted by Phuong (who is a big part of Erik's team at Mui Ne) who helped get us settled in for our 4 day stay. We are a family of four and loved being able to go between Mui Ne 1,2 & 3. The pools are great, especially when it gets very hot during the day! We enjoyed having Pho for breakfast overlooking the beautiful views of Mui Ne. The NYE party was such a great way to meet other travelers and enjoy a great feast of food.

Erik you have a great team working with you and we enjoyed staying there, a home away from home!

This is a great place for families.

"Perfect" is a word not strong enough reviewing the Mui Ne Hils. Our exeptations were exeeded by far. The quiet location high up on the hill is great, overlooking the sea, the many kites and the exotic palm trees along the entire bay, yet close to the beach and the many restaurants. The rooms and bathrooms are the cleanest ever and the beds are very comfortable indeed. We really enjoyed the nice and friendly staff serving with a smile 18/7. All in all the gusthouse is well managed and rates are set to be more than fare.
We will recommend Mui Ne Hills to people and friends heading that way... and to stay at least four days...

Dear Guest,

It was a real pleasure having both your families staying with us over New Year 2013. It was beautiful to see how all your members were able to find their favorite spot out of the 3 choices available at Mui Ne Hills 1 , 2 and 3.... some having big fun in the large swimming pool of Mui Ne Hills 3, some chilling out at the pooldeck of Mui Ne Hills 1 or some just relaxing in the shade along the swimming pool of Mui Ne Hills 2.

We sincerely look forward to welcome all of you back next year !!

We wish you all a fantastic 2013 ... with lots of love, friendship and .... passion !!

Best regards

Stayed there for 3 nights. The view is great, rooms are basic but have everything you need. It consists of 3 smaller locations all next to each other, each with its own pool. It is located a bit higher than street level so you catch a nice breeze. Best part was the staff. Erik and his team do their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. All done in a very natural and relaxed way. Nice details like breakfast till 5pm and the fruit shakes. All comes at a very good price. Highly recommendable.

Muine 2 is not a great property and you can go quite wrong in the room selection or the rooms that you get (as we did at peak rates $70/night), nondescript, no view, very small. So decidedly the info on the site is misleading. The room was smallest possible. And this room we got after protesting about the first one which was given to us which was practically outside the hotel and on the road literally adjoining the staff quarters. Initially when we protested they told us we were free to leave if we did not like the accommodations. The following day after initially telling us that nothing better was available, the Manager told us that he could possibly accommodate us in one of the inside rooms, which we took only because atleast it was inside the hotel. But nonetheless it was terribly small and did not match the description on the Bookings.com website. Secondly if one is intending to enjoy a holiday on the beach then this is certainly not the place. It is close to the beach maybe 300mtrs as the crow flies but if you cant fly then you cant reach the beach. One would be better off paying some more and booking at one of the seaside resorts/hotels because practically there isn't free access to the beach as the entire beach front is lined with hotels/resorts so you cannot get to the beach unless you pass through the beach front properties and necessarily use their facilities. So at Mui Ne though we enjoyed the general atmosphere of a holiday resort, we did not really get to lounge by the sea because that would necessarily require that you either be consuming food or participating in water sports but not just lolling about the beach. The small stretch of Public beach that is there, is quite far away - definitely not comfortable walking distance.

Room Tip: Specify - pool facing 1st floor except Room No.33. Or better stay at Mui Ne Hills 1

Dear Guest

Thank you for having taken your valuable time to stay with us. You indeed stayed at Mui Ne Hills 2 for 5 nights and we did sit down together to listen to your comments. As you obviously had expected to be in a hotel on the beach (whereas all our publicity mentions very clear that we are at 300 meter distance from the best part of the beach of Mui Ne), we even agreed to cancel your reservation at no cancellation charges.

However you stayed with us during X-mas and New Year and you quickly found out that any other reasonable alternative in Mui Ne would easily have cost you double (and even more !) then what we were charging you. Mui Ne Hills stands proud and is known for providing guests with an excellent price/value ratio. You hence decided to stay at Mui Ne Hills 2 and we do remember that you spent lots of time around the various swimming pools of our 3 locations and were very satisfied afterwards.

We do not have any "staff quarters" at Mui Ne Hills as you are referring to. You were allocated the room which you had booked. All our bookings are being confirmed in writing with full details of the room description and conditions, and the room provided to you corresponded exactly to these conditions.

The fact that you decided not to move proves that the alternative would have cost much more or might not even have been available. Both our hotels run fully booked throughout the whole year and it would have been very easy for us to rent the room to another guest, who surely would have been very satisfied staying at Mui Ne Hills, same as all the other guests (as the numerous reviews prove) ...

We would like to stress again that the exact actual walking distance to the beach is 300 meters and that Mui Ne is a PUBLIC beach of 10 km with the best part exactly at 300 meters distance from Mui Ne Hills. Mui Ne Hills has in total 3 swimming pools with abundant lounge chairs for all our guests. 2 swimming pools overlook the ocean and 1 swimming pool provides more shade for those guests who prefer a cooler setting.

We wish you a pleasant onward journey throughout beautiful Viet Nam !

Best regards
