“A disappointing end to a pleasant stay!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013 via mobile

We came across Hai Yen when we first arrived in Mui Ne and having no reservation were told that the "beach front" side of the resort was $18 per room per night and the opposite side $16. We opted to stay on the restaurant side as the beach front area is undergoing construction work.
The room and poolside were clean and pleasant and the staff in the restaurant helpful. Overall we were content with our stay even though it was a little quiet.
We were however extremely disappointed when we went to check out and were told that we were to pay $18 for the restaurant side as this was not what had been agreed. The gentleman rang the receptionist who had originally quoted us and she proceeded to lie and tell him that she had told us the beach side area was $24 and other side $18. We were disappointed that such a nice stay had come to this kind of end and it would have been somewhere we would have liked to return to had we not been lied to and the price missold.

The first thing to point out is that during our stay at the beginning of October, the hotel were having some major building work done on the beach front rooms across the road from the main resort. Although this didn't affect noise pollution it did prevent us from being able to access the beach and the pool overlooking the beach which we were quite disappointed about. Having said that the beach down this end of Mui Ne is far from epic anyway and you're better off going 15 mins down the road and accessing the beach from Jibes. However the pool and area at the back of the resort are well kept and clean and we used these on a couple of occasions which was a life saver as there really isn't much to do Mui Ne (even if you do kite/wind/surf as there was hardly any wind and surfboard rental was pretty pricey @ $10/hr).

We booked a standard room for around $14-15 on Agoda. When we arrived we were told we were upgraded to a superior room which was nice. The room was very small so given that the standard rooms are described in other reviews as being small I'm not sure how much the upgrade is more to appease than actually true but they were clean with a tv, a couple of chairs, enough desk/table space to store things on and a decent little wardrobe. It's probably because the rooms are so well kitted out that they seem small, but don't get me wrong they are fine for couples or those who don't mind sharing space. We stayed 3 nights and the rooms were cleaned after the 2nd night with towels replaced which is always nice.

The restaurant serves a decent and reasonably priced breakfast and we tried a couple of the main dishes one night too which weren't bad, but Phat Hamburger is a 5 minute walk down the road if you fancy a decent burger which is one of the best things about the location.

There have been reports of a "dragon woman" at reception but we can honestly say we found the receptionist to be really quite pleasant and probably misunderstood in previous reviews.

In the end I don't think we even set foot on the beach as the stretch at Mui Ne certainly isn't Nha Trang, and in fact in hindsight (other than the sand dunes which are quite surreal but only take up all of a morning or afternoon) we probably wouldn't have bothered if we'd not been lead to believe it was as nice as our Lonely Planet Guide book had led us to believe.

booked without reservation with no problem, mui ne was pretty quiet, more of a stop off place on the way to saigon.

the hotel was alright rooms were clean and wifi worked fine for us. laundry was priced ok and was handy having a restaurant within the hotel. hired a bike for the day which was good but if your not doing a tour in mui ne there is near enough nothing to do.

the staff were pleasant and answered any questions we had and told us the best way to travel to saigon and booked us the bus,

the swimming pool was VERY clean and maintained and i think that's what saved our trip to mui ne, because it was low season we could just chill in the pool without alot of people around and just take some time to breath in the beauty which is Vietnam.

when leaving mui ne we saw many high end resorts which are probably not that more expensive than hai yen but if your looking for a no thrills hotel to stop off and regenerate this is the place!

We came to Mui Ne and had booked this hotel from our other hotel in Nha Trang, so we didn't really know what it woiuld be like before we came there, as many other backpackers do.. But, when we came there, the receptionist was somewhat short and not very nice to us. Seemed to be a temporary office/reception on the other side of the road to the actual hotel. The rooms were as clean as you get them for $22, not the best ive seen though. Wifi connection was really bad, had to use the neighbors wifi to get connected.

Wouldn't stay there one more night

We spent 3 weeks staying at Hai Yen and it was great! We wanted a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and this suited us well. Staff were welcoming and helpful, and allowed us privacy, and were also very receptive to any requests we made. The room was clean and spacious enough. We had access to two swimming pools, the sea and a good basic restaurant. Jay was great. He speaks excellent English, is very knowledgeable about the area, and understands what a foreigner expects. Thanks, Jay, and the team. We had a wonderful holiday!

after browsing online, hai yen was one of the cheapest places we could find to stay while in mui ne. they're currently doing construction on their beach front rooms so we were across the street and upgraded to a family room, free of charge. some staff members were indifferent but one was very helpful and friendly. the beach wasn't great in that area and on the second and third day of our stay it was covered in garbage. but the pools were very nice at the hotel. our room was very clean, including the bathroom with hot shower. location was great, near many restaurants and shops.

We were looking for somewhere to spend a month at in Mui Ne and checked this place out. They said we could have the beach front room because we would be there for such a long time. So the next day we checked in only to be told the room we were promised is not available. Great!! We spent 1 night there and found another hotel the next day. Shame, because it seemed ok and the restaurant served good meals.
