We stayed at the Best Western of Waukegan, IL on our summer vacation to the Chicago area.
This hotel was very dated and in dire need of renovations. The biggest disappointment was the pool area in which the hot tub/whirlpool was boarded up and the pool itself dirty and virtually unswimmable. This was a huge disappointment as we stayed at three other hotels during our tri-state vacation and enjoyed relaxing in the hottub and splashing in the pool after a day of sight-seeing. This was not possible at Best Western of Waukegan.
The rooms were also small and dated. No refrigerator in rooms and barely enough room for our suitcases in amongst the beds. Also, would have appreciated a sitting area in the room. I also had problems with cleaniness in the 1st room we were in ... it had small bugs in the bathroom, although the staff were quick to respond and move us to another room which was marignally acceptable.
The location itself was not ideal either, Would have rather stayed closer to the entrance of Six Flags Great America or Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall as there is much more variety and selection of restaurants and attractions nearby.
On a positive note the staff was generally very friendly and dealt with concerns in a courteous manner. Although, they did not credit my gold crown membership number as requested twice and required me to e-mail the club direct after my vacation to get credit for our three night stay.
We did like the availability and usage of a computer and internet connection in lobby during our stay.
We will not likely return to this hotel, as I believe there are better, more modern, and well-kept properties to stay at in the Greater Chicago area. I suggest that travelers look elsewhere for accomodations.
