“Do not book reservations here!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Tried to cancel reservations, they would not cancel. Rude, not friendly, talked over me the whole time I tried to talk! Wanted to book somewhere else to be with family for Navy graduation. It was in the Navy brochure and should be removed!

Please do not stay at the America's Best Value Inn in Waukegan, Illinois. It was in the Navy brochure and only three miles or so from the Navy Recruit Base so we choose it. We paid around $85 a night plus tax. Rooms were smelly, dirty and there was hair on the bathroom floors and toilets. There wasn't any soap in the bathrooms and the toilet paper was down to a few sheets. We checked in then went to find dinner. When we came back I discovered that our street level windows were closed but unlocked. There weren't any screens. I know better and should have checked but, didn't think about it when we arrived. Fortunately, we didn't have to add a theft to our experience. You could hear the guests in the other rooms. We braved it for two nights and on the second night between 3:00 and 5:00 we could hear clearly "wild monkey dancing" in the room next to ours and tried to block out the sexual exploits of the people in the next room with pillows over our head. Most lights did not function and most electrical outlets were broken. Our stress level was heighten by missing our son, travel and the lack of sleep. I have traveled extensively throughout Latin America and have stayed in many tourist class hotels of third world countries with standards above and beyond this hotel. This hotel was a disgrace. Beware

Our family went to this hotel knowing nothing about it. We were surprised how well the staff takes care of your every need. There were 7 of us , with 2 rooms and not one complaint. The hotel even offers a shuttle to Great America - how great is that!!! We will definitely be back next year. The wonderful staff makes the stay worth it.

We made reservations here because it stated that it was new, close to Six Flags, and it was cheap. I will never stay in an America's Best Value Inn again. The room was nasty. There were dead bugs in it, food left on the floor, mold on the ceiling, mold on the bathroom floor, and the bed spring was covered in black on the outside part. The breakfast was not good. We worried that our car was going to be broken into. There were people hanging outside the motel and in the halls. Don't waste your money staying here, unless you have not other choice.

I was trying to find a cheap hotel as we were going to Six Flags and I found a dump. This was the most disgusting hotel I've ever seen. There were prostitutes coming in and out of the hotel, it stunk like urine, the rooms were dirty and we were afraid our car would be broken into and we would get robbed. I wouldn't recommend a dog staying here. Our son opened a cabinet in the room and the door almost fell off on him. The walls had holes in them, we had to shove the door open to just get into the room. We didn't end up staying here as it was too disgusting. Pay a little more money and stay at the Ramada Hotel, which is where we ended up staying at. It was very nice.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!

I researched online several hotels near the naval base before choosing this particular hotel. The amenities that influenced my decision were indoor pool, business center, microwave in the room, continental breakfast and transportation to the naval base. Upon arrival we were informed the pool that had been advertised at the time of our reservations was no longer available, we had no microwave in our room, and there is no business center on the property. The hotel does offer wireless internet but does not offer any printing services or computer access. The claim of a business center is bogus. Also the continental breakfast was one of the worst we have ever encountered. The bread was dry and the jelly packets were so old that the jelly was not able to spread onto the toast. It was hard and very sticky. The juices offered were orange and apple and both were watered down and were odd tasting. The hotel is in fair to moderate condition with noticeable water damage in several areas of the ceiling. The interior décor is outdated and appears to be a bit rundown and is dark and drabby. Every morning that we exited the front lobby to go to our car there was a strong overwhelming stench in the parking lot which smelled moldy and damp. Our room was clean and the staff was very respectful. However on the last night of our stay we were extremely upset that at 4:40 am a family of no less than three adults and several children were checked into the room next to ours. The hotel at this time was pretty empty, there were several other available rooms but for some reason this family was sent to the room right next to ours. They were yelling and screaming and knocking their belongings against the wall of our room. I had to call the front desk to ask them to have these hotel quests quiet down. There was absolutely no reason in the first place that this family should have been checked into a room next to others who were trying to sleep since the hotel was so empty. At check in it would have been obvious that they were going to be loud since we were woken up as they ran up and down the halls and loudly brought in their possessions. This was the final straw for us. I usually do not complain unless a situation is unbearable. Due to being woken up before five in the morning, our entire trip back to Nebraska we were exhausted. The disappointment of having no pool, the inconvenience of no microwave and having to walk to the lobby to heat up our restaurant leftovers, having no advertised business center to print out some documents that I needed printed, being very disappointed in the low quality food served for breakfast and then being so rudely woken up on our final morning was over the top for us. I would not recommend this hotel to others visiting the area based on the false advertisements that were posted at the time we placed our reservation. I notice now that the pool pictures have been deleted but they were there when I booked my reservation. If this is an indication of other America's best hotels we will not be booking our next hotel with them. we will go back to our reliable quality inns or other major chain.

Room Tip: go to a totally different hotel

Stayed here for grandsons navy graduation beginning of March. Very friendly staff, beds comfortable. Breakfast was lacking, no fruit and limited items. Shuttle provided free transportation to graduation, very easy.
