“Almost home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

I have been looking for a unique property to spend our few days in Costa Rica for my birthday. My husband and I dont like to stay in huge chain hotels and we always try to find a "homey" feel accomodations when we travel. I must say that we were quite lucky that we found this lodge! First of all , Estelle and Florian, merci beaucoup for EVERYTHING! you were wonderful wonderful hosts. You made us feel special and at home. Second, he lodge was beautiful and clean, the breakfast was great. The luscious beautiful surroundings were amazing. We saw monkeys, turtles, sloths and the property cat that was trying to steal our breakfast:) We enjoyed every moment of our stay, even on the day when it rained extremely hard! The beach is very close by, so the location is great!!! I must mention that we stayed at the lodge in May 2013, and it was still a transition time for the new owners. They have stepped up to the task and made this place AMAZING! I cannot wait to come back and see it again! Estelle and Florian, thank you so much for wonderful memories, great dinner and fantastic conversations! Thank you for putting up with my husband and his fishing ideas ( remember saving the turtle?) I would highly recommend this wonderful "home away from home" to everyone. You cant beat the location and the hospitality! Hasta la proxima!!!! Natasha& Sergey

I stayed with my girlfriend at the Casita Los Tucanes from Aug. 2 - Aug. 4 and I must say we were more than pleased with the accommodations. Based on the price and what we know to expect from jungle lodging we were expecting something a lot more rustic, but the casita was so comfortable, nicely furnished and super equipped! Everything worked properly, the bed was comfortable and the shower had nice pressure. The property is in a lush jungle where you can easily spot colorful frogs, all kinds of birds and monkeys, and you can see turtles swimming in the nearby creek. Location couldn't be better if you want to be close to the nicest beaches and not so far from Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. The owners lent us bikes, which is a definite plus! And as others have said in previous reviews the breakfast is plentiful and delicious. Insect repellent is a must, specially if you want to hang out in the little deck around dusk; and wet clothing and towels stay damp because of the high humidity so I recommend bringing extra. I want to thank the owners for such a beautiful place and for working so hard to make our stay wonderful. Merci!!

You emphasize the comfort and equipment casita "Los Tucanes" and the quality of our breakfast, the positive feedback is very rewarding for us when everything was up to your expectations.

Thank you very much for the time you have given to writing and sharing your impressions.

My husband and I were lucky enough to spend 8 days at this wonderful place. Our cabin had 2 hammocks on the deck, a kitchen, living room and bathroom.

Location: About a 4 minute walk to Punta Uva Beach (there are 2 sides to the beach, the other side is just as awesome but a couple minutes further on foot). Punta Uva is without a doubt the most beautiful beach in the area. The closest side is very Jurrasic Park looking, which is AWESOME. There is a little store nearby as well that sells pretty much anything you could need to eat or drink. Pachamama is 8km from Puerto Viejo and most people use bikes because the road is so flat. But be careful bike riding at night! There are almost no street lights so wear a reflector.

Place: There are a few cabins located in the jungle by the river. The new owners of Pachamama are amazing. Hospitable and charming, you could not ask for more. Your breakfast is HUGE so if you are a budget traveller count this in the price as well as free bike rental. Why did we not stay on the beach? Well because of conservation laws (yay) there are actually very few places where you can do this. Value for money this place is hands down your best option in the area. Beach and bathroom towels are provided so no need to bring your own. You will need bug spray. Anywhere, even if not staying here, you will need it.

Tips: I pack light, but this place can be humid (you are in the jungle, you know) so I brought a bit more than usual as things do not dry well. So instead of 2 bathing suits I brought 4. That kind of thing.

We went to Cahuita national Park and had the whole beach to ourselves. It is massive but very few visitors when we were there. It was our own paradise.

Right from arrival, the owners Florian and Estelle did their utmost to make us feel at home. This is a fantastic place, set in the jungle with fireflies, colored frogs, and monkeys to wake you up. Comfortable lodges, clean, and best of all: luxurious breakfast with fresh baked cakes on your own veranda. Even if we returned late from morning excursions, breakfast was always served with greatest dedication.

We were welcome late in the evening by Estella and Florian and they showed us how everything worked. There was a big container of drinking water in our kitchen and lots of delicious fruit and beautiful flowers waiting for us. We really liked the simplicity of the room and had a great time reading in the hammocks as the rain poured down around us during the rainy season. We were given great beachcruiser bikes to get around on which we used for everything - going the the beaches, restaurants, into Puerta Viejo for groceries. The owners were very quick to respond to problems and were very helpful with all of our questions about the area. Breakfast was very good with homebaked muffins, hard boiled eggs, fruit, yoghurt and toast with good jam and excellent coffee. It was provided on our porch every morning so we could eat in private. A little negative was that because of the humidity the place was very damp and so our backpacks went mouldy and the much appreciated safe was also very mouldy. It's difficult to get things to dry out in such humidity but a better fan would have made a big difference. Our hut was surrounded by beautiful jungle and close to the beach. We were on our honeymoon, and it was more of a honeymoon for the type who normally like to camp, rather than luxury accomodations. We enjoyed the French hosts very much.

Estelle and Florian have welcomed me in March 2013, as they were just taking over the lodge from the previous owner.
I have spent a wonderful time there as the new owners truly treat you like their personal guest. They have done everything possible to accommodate my stay.
There is really something special in the way they welcome you and I have no doubt that this place will become a great success.
By the way, you should try the canoe on the river close to the lodge: a great experience with the monkeys and the turtles.

In June 2012 a group of us reserved the entire property for 30 days in Feb/Mar. Two weeks before our arrival, after unauthorized charges to our credit card by Bill, we found out that he had sold Pachamama. The new owners chose to honor our reservation during a time they had planned to be closed for cleaning and renovations. When they found out about our visit they had only 12 days to prepare for us. Everything possible was done to welcome us and make us comfortable. The surrounding jungle is fantastic!! We seen Howler & Spider monkeys, sloths, iguanas & numerous birds and other wildlife right from our units. Plus, all the beautiful plants and flowers. There's a well-stocked grocery store nearby with friendly and helpful owners. The bus picks up and drops off right outside the gate a few times everyday. Unfortunately, the restaurant next door has made some changes and I can no longer give it a high rating. It was a wonderful experience and after Estelle & Florian have time to do all they have planned it will be even better.

Room Tip: The bungalows (Los Monos) worked well for our group. The large deck gave us a place to gather.
