“Good Italian, great pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Timpone's is a go-to place for visitors to the University of Illinois campus. You can nearly always find Ray, the owner, walking among tables or working in the kitchen. The Italian fare is wonderful, but the pizza's and Timpone's burger are the best!

“Lost it's Lustre”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Timpone's has always been one of our favorite restaurants; however, something is changing. The food is still very good (though pricey), but the waitstaff is either incompetent or just not trained.

On our recent visit there were a series of events involving the staff:

When we called for reservations, we were told that they they could only squeeze us in at 5pm. Upon arrival at 5pm and departure one hour later, there were numerous unoccupied tables, and we overheard the host advising a party via phone that there were tables available at 7pm.

When our waitress took our drink order she advised me that the only bourbon they carried was Maker's Mark and they were out of that. I thought that was unusual so I stopped at the bar upon departure and noted that they had Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, Jack Daniels and Maker's Mark. I told the bartender what the waitress had said and his only response was that Jack Daniels was not a bourbon, it's a Tennessee whiskey.

The waitress was not aware of the nightly specials - she had to to check and return.

My spouse asked for bread with our salad and entree. Note that there is now a $1.00 charge for bread (it's listed as an appetizer). When you're paying $20-$29 for an entree and $11-$12 for a salad, it's seems a little chintzy to pay $1.00 for a piece of bread.

Lastly, once our entree was served, the waitress disappeared until we finished and she returned then to ask if we were ready for our check.

“Good service but mediocre food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

went there recently for dinner. served water glasses with old lipstick stains and bread plate with old coffee cup stain. food was expensive for what it was - mediocre and bland. the wine selection was good which is a plus but the food was definitely not as good as i imagined it would be.

“The Best Restaurant on Campus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

This is a favorite place for dining before a concert or play at the University's Krannert Performing Arts Center. You can park at the Center, then make a half-block walk to Timpone's. It is also a favorite place for University faculty seeking to do business over lunch. The menu is diverse: favorites are risotto and specialty pizzas. The sole drawback is that the main dining area is upstairs, which makes it a climb for anyone with mobility issues.

“Cozy, Romantic and Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Timpone's is a favorite of mine. It's a little pricey, but worth the money if it's a special occasion.

The food is complex and delicious without being snobby. The menu changes all the time to take advantage of seasonal ingredients.

The environment is cozy and intimate. It's a multi-level restaurant, so you feel like you're in a small romantic setting and not a huge, sprawled out chain restaurant.

The servers are very friendly and are very good at recommending dishes or describing different ingredients.
