“Great Stay, Great Price, Excited about the future!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stayed at the Urbana Landmark Hotel for the state tournament in February and it was very nice. The owner greeted us and walked us through the hotel, showing us the work that he has put in and what they plan to do. They were exceedingly friendly there and very helpful. The owner was very hands on and seemed genuinly excited about the hotel.

The beds were very comfortable and the pillows and comforter were outstanding. The decor captures the old German castle vibe quite nicely. Wonderful place, look forward to staying there again next time I go to Champaign/Urbana area.

My husband and I booked a room in the Landmark Hotel after reading some news stories about its recent renovation and remodel. The price was good for a weekend overnight stay in downtown Urbana, and we were in the mood for some adventure.

We were well-aware that the property had not finished its remodel, and we were glad we took a chance. While the hotel has a long way to go in restoring it to a fully serviceable hotel, the owner and staff took great care in making us feel comfortable and providing us with some good amenities. Our king room was comfortable and clean. The room furnishings were fairly modern, and we appreciated having a refrigerator and microwave in the room at no extra charge. The free wifi was also a plus.

The bathroom was fine, and the old brick floors and original wallpaper added to the historic touches. It did take quite a while for the hot water to reach the shower, but we eventually were able to have hot showers.

Although the hotel is not yet able to serve breakfast, we were given a basket of packaged cereal bars and juice, which was a thoughtful touch. The staff was helpful, and it was nice to chat with the owner about the challenges of remodeling such a property. The lobby still maintains its historic character, and we could see the balance between modern touches and original details.

One advantage of the hotel is that it is connected to the Lincoln Square shopping center, which is convenient for anyone wanting to shop there (there's a great food co-op and art store). Great restaurants and shops are nearby.

We enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again, but the property still needs many more renovations. I can't wait to see it when the remodel is complete and the place is full of guests--and I hope the property can withstand any inevitable growing pains. I also hope the hotel puts up a website soon.

Overall, this property is a good value for anyone traveling to the area willing to take a chance.

We stayed the first night they were open. The remodeled lobby and entrance were redone beautifully. The room was great with the new look and still had the historic charm you would expect. The hotel owner and staff were very friendly and talked about what they had remodeled then took us on a tour of the property.

It is an unique historic hotel in the downtown of Urbana. I have business to take care of regularly in Urbana. I heard that this boutique hotel just opened not long ago, We gave it a shot. We certainly liked the atmosphere of the hotel. Everything is old style but we did have free Wi-Fi, fridge, microwave in our room. The room was not very fancy but very clean and comfortable..

My husband and I both graduated from University of Illinois and often went back to see friends there. While re-visiting the Lincoln Square Mall last weekend, we saw a few local TV reporters live covering the reopening of this old elegant British country style hotel. My husband took me to this attractive hotel on our first date 12 years ago. Out of curiosity, we ventured into this newly remodeled hotel and found ourselves back in the old time. The hotel was glamorous and beautiful. A grand canopy and marble floored entrance were built. We looked at a few guest rooms and decided to stay in room 243, a single king room, for a night to relive our young beautiful time. The new renovated room is impeccably decorated and very comfy. In our room, we found a new refrigerator, 32" flat screen TV, Microwave, and coffee maker but we did not use the refrigerator at all. Wi-Fi was free. I just love this hotel. Staying there is like going back to my beautiful school years in UI.

Room Tip: Room 243 is good
